New Passat or Jetta best for MODS?

I was going to purchase a 335d but after bmw decided to drop the axe on production I am now convinced I want a new passat or jetta. I will be purchasing in the next month or two. Besides size and the UREA what are the other differences? I ask because my dealer has a 5K$ price difference between the two when identically specd. I will defiantly be putting a tuner on it almost immediately and probably will be doing some mods within a year of ownership. I heard that another thing that's in the jetta's favor is that it has a full size spare instead of a donut tire. Also are the ground clearances the same? I wish VW would just bring over the passat alltrack so I can replace the need for a 4x4 truck too.

hmmm will the AWIC handle mods better? I guess it depends on the robustness of the AWIC compared to the FMIC on these vehicles. I know the AWIC do pretty well on the 6.7 powerstroke

My gut instinct is that the new Golf/Jetta will have more turn-key offerings going forward. If you're going 'extreme' though, you'll be building a lot of the hardware anyway, and it won't matter.

I say buy the car you like, then tune it to your taste.

Honestly I don't know anything about the system that is on it other than it has its own coolant circuit with the same overflow - there is a thread around here with details. As far as cooling capacity, I'd be interested in seeing some side-by-side logs.

I am really looking just to push it to the reliable limit of the DSG transmission which I deduced from reading many threads to be around 230-250hp. In reality that all I will probably want out of a car. My truck will be for the 600hp+....Anyone else have anymore opinions? Also what are some good tuners for the new TDI's to get the most out of them.

I would still and I am still considering getting a 335d. After having driven one in Europe this summer with just a tune, I can honestly say that I am hooked. Back on topic, the Jetta is nicer than the Passat in my opinion, but if I can;t get the 335d as my next car I will be looking at a Golf!
