New noise after DPF replacement

We had the DPF on our 2013 Sportwagen replaced yesterday at 140k miles. Now there is a new whistle / whoosh noise when accelerating. It's especially noticeable at around 2500 rpm. The tech maintains that the different sound is due to the new DPF flowing better than the old one, but I'm not convinced. I don't remember the car making this noise when it was new. It seems like there is also some diesel exhaust fume smell in the cabin at times. Has anyone come across this after a new DPF install?

If you can get to them check the joins, if there's a leak you often see a bit of black soot around it. Maybe something isn't properly sealed up.

So is it fair to say that the car should sound about the same before and after a DPF replacement? I'll take a look for any soot at the joins.

Won't always sound the same, sometimes after market parts vary a bit and can make it sound different although I haven't dealt with a replacement dpf yet.
Had it sound strange after a downpipe change etc though.

But no harm in making sure there's no leaks especially if your getting fumes in the cabin.

Update: The shop tightened up a fitting on the DPF assembly that almost eliminated the exhaust smell. They agreed the noise during acceleration is loud, but still can't find the source after trying smoke tests of the exhaust and intake.

The noise sounds like a compressed air line with a big air leak and it gets louder as the turbo spools up during acceleration. Any ideas anyone??

It's either still a tiny leak on the exhaust or a boost pipe, one might have a split somewhere or a slightly bad connection.

I will bet, since it's at the back of the engine near the DPF that either the EGR intake pipe got bumped or the turbo high pressure side got bumped and is leaking. You should not hear that noise. Something is leaking

Sounds like some likely causes. Latest is the CEL came back on with code P2084 soon after the third visit to the tech. The exhaust smell is still noticeable on startup and whenever the heater/AC fan is not off or on recirc., not to mention the "compressed air" noise.

Something is not right in their work for sure. I just got my 2012 back with new DPF and EGR filter, no difference in sound, but way better fuel economy and throttle response.

You are lucky that your car has codes back, otherwise an incompetent dealership/tech will fight and fight to weasel out of fixing it right, but with a CEL, they can't!

Think that's something to do with an egt sensor, I bet they have bumped something while working in there.
