VOLKSWAGEN LAUNCHES ALL-NEW JETTA IN S.KOREA
SEOUL, May 2 Asia Pulse - Volkswagen Korea, the local importer of German automaker Volkswagen, on Monday introduced the two newest versions of the Volkswagen Jetta passenger vehicle in South Korea.
The new Jetta comes in two trims with either a 1.6-liter TDI BlueMotion engine that produces 105 maximum horsepower and 25.5 kilogram-meters of maximum torque or a 2.0-liter TDI engine with 140 maximum horsepower and 32.6 kilogram-meters of maximum torque.
Equipped with Volkswagen's BlueMotion technologies, the 1.6 model has a fuel economy of 22.2 kilometers per liter, one of the highest in its segment, while the 2.0 model offers an average fuel efficiency of 18 km per liter, according to Volkswagen Korea.
"The all-new Jetta with an enlarged body, attractive new designs and powerful performances, along with its environmentally friendliness and efficiency, offers the best values that cannot even be compared to those offered by any others in its segment," Volkswagen Korea president Park Jong-hoon said.
The local price of the 1.6 TDI BlueMotion model was set at 31.9 million won (US$29,900) with that of the Jetta 2.0 TDI model set at 34.9 million won. Both prices are inclusive of value-added tax.
It's disgusting that we can't get the smaller TDI in North America that is put into a car designed for this market. It's also disgusting to see that only diesels are offered in the jetta in Korea. There is a 30% gain in mileage with the 1.6 bluemotion TDI over the 2.0 TDI. That would easily put the jetta sedan at 50 mpg highway.
