Installed mine over the weekend.

Perfect Fit! VERY easy installation. Takes about 30 seconds to get the hinge installed, and took me about 30 min to get the glovebox out. All in all, under an hour job and MUCH less frustration of a hard-falling door!

Installed mine today. Did it while the door was in place by taking out 7 torex screws and removing the dampener on the broken hinge. Drilled holes in place and the photo below is the finished assembly. All tolled was an hour taking my time.

Thanks Andrew! Fine job!;)

I installed mine, and its a bit tight. I'd rather have it close than be broken.. I think it'll work in a little bit though, just need to file down some edges a bit...

Oh everything installed perfectly, only trouble is getting the glovebox out. I don't know if my box was screwed up, but I'll post some pictures. Also, my shock doesn't work now, since it can't attach to the new metal hinge? Or did I miss something??

No, the shock will not work with your new hinge...the shock is the reason why most glove boxes are broken.

If your glove box door isn't broken yet I highly recommend oiling it ASAP, you will be surprised what a big difference it will make.

If you would like to be able to use your shock I'll have a new style hinge out in a week or two...I make NO guarantees for the lid or the new hinge if you use the shock. If you don't oil that shock, you will likely break the lid again, for the last time.

I really hope that these hinges make everyone happy, if something is wrong, email me, call me if you need to, we'll get it fixed. This is a custom solution for a "unfixable" expensive problem, I'm doing my best.

Honestly, I don't know if the shock mount is a good idea. Its the whole reason the hing breaks in the first place. It gets stiff in the cold and puts quite load on the hinge. If that hing fix rips out, you will be SOL.

IMO, the best place for the shock is the garbage.

Agreed, but you can cut the internal spring down and drill a small hole in the end of the piston to relieve pressure. but the best deal is to throw the whole cylinder away!

I have to disagree. The shock stops the door from slamming down, and I think that years of the door slamming down would break a plastic hinge anyway.

The fault here is the weakness of the plastic in the glovebox door. But, with the this metal hinge kit - fault solved.

I think the only reason the hinge breaks is because that shock isn't properly lubricated. Almost everyone I've ever seen was just about frozen until given a bit of grease. It's actually pretty decent when lubed.

andrew and i talked about this a while back... when i received one of the prototype hinges i did some creative modding to hook up the glove box door shock. he warned me it would probably put to much stress on it and it would break again. however i have been running it with the shock attached for a while and it seems to be doing great. but i believe that it is imperative to make sure the shock is lubricated properly to prevent excess binding, i would have totally forgotten to do that if Andrew didn't tell me to when i installed the hinge. i believe his hinge is sturdy enough to hold the assembly together and prevent to much stress on the plastic... but we will see how much longer it lasts. once again it's a great product and I am really happy with it.
