New girl needs info

Hello, I have a 2014 Q7 TDI I have named Hans Diesel. I'm trying to be a good owner but finding local service shops has proven tricky. I'm in chico ca. Is it crazy to think I can do some of my own service work? Oil changes, filters, belts? Most of my experience is with classic America cars. I'm at 119k miles and debating selling him so he gets better care but if you guys know of good how to links I would appreciate it.

Yes, depending on your skill and confidence level. Same as your old chevy except the diesel (fueling). And of course the modern cars have a lot more electronics, makes it easier in some respects.

The CNRB Q7 would not be my first choice of vehicles to get your European Diesel feet wet. They are quite complex.

But the basics like filter and fluid changes are not all that difficult.

oil changes, air and fuel filter changes are pretty straight forward. serp belt i assume isnt terrible but your audi is due for a timing belt and water pump aswell as what should be its 3rd tranny fluid and filter flush. these are not cheap if having to pay a mechanic and not exactly shade tree mechanic worthy either...that said with the right tools and time/patience i do feel most williing and able owners could perform these services...that said ive not actually owned or serviced an audi tdi.....

The CNRB has no timing belt. It has nothing in common with the ALH cars. Other than it uses diesel.

while i said nothing in regards to an alh, it shows how little i know about any audi diesels....i assume they need a water pump (maybe 2 for all i know) and some other major service items periodically regardless. if you consider them complex that is about all the OP really needs to know....

User @JELLOWSUBMARINE looks to be around the Chico area (I noticed the plate frame on a vehicle he has for sale); he knows his way around a TDI - he could possibly help you out, or recommend a shop (?). Maybe try shooting him a pm ("start a conversation" as this message board calls it).

Thank you! Everyone been really helpful. I'm just driving along in the rain and the whole wiper arm snapped off so much fun! I think I'm gonna sell this Beast.

I hope Rothenbacker doesn't see this and get a swelled head. Go to autozone and buy a replacement, they'll install it for free.

Yeah - wiper arm coming loose is a quick fix. I wouldn't toss a vehicle for small things like that; if you're having major problems (engine, transmission, etc.) and the repair is approaching the value of the vehicle....that's a different story.
