You're going to love the Passat! Just put 1500 miles on ours in the last four days.GAAAAAHHHH... I found this thread too late... Had the stealership change the oil on Saturday. And 2Round is only about an hour or so away. DOH!! *stamps foot*
Oh, the humanity
Trading in the Yeti for a new Passat TDI at Langhorne VW in a few weeks. Keepin' it in the family - it'll be TDI #3, VW#5.
It does use 3 nuts to attach. I guess I never noticed if the holes were elongated (if they are, it's not by much) and wonder if it's manufacturing tolerances. I checked in the Bentley and it makes no mention of setting a measurement when installing or doing an alignment afterward. I have done a bunch of them, never done an alignment, and never had any ill effects. The B4 doesn't use the three nuts to attach the ball joint to the control arm? Because on the VWs I've dealt with with that setup, it is slightly adjustable there, I thought.
I have my weekly appt with Dr Rich tomorrow afternoon. I'll check in with him and ask.Anyone know if Rich Tremblay will be there? If he is, we'll have 3 TDI's with over 400K on them.
I don't think anything will be open on Sunday but just doing the ball joints and nothing else you should be ok to get home at least. Last time I did the control arm bushings and ball joints on my MK3 when I brought it in for an alignment nothing needed to be adjusted except they found a bent axle stud in the back that I didn't know about. If I replace ball joints there, is there a shop fairly close by (open on Sundays) that I could go to for an alignment before driving home? Its probably not a good idea for me to drive several hundred miles before getting it aligned. Trying to plan ahead.
I forget who did it first, but an empty diesel can put out by the road is a very distinctive marker for a TDI GTG vs the neighbor's party...I almost forgot!. My neighbor is also having a party so you'll have to keep driving past that one and I'll also put a sign at the end of my driveway. Also, just a heads up yesterday they put down tar and loose gravel to "resurface" the road. Its short, just the part from Main St to my house but if you have nice paint and are worried about it you might want to take your "beater" car if you have one.
