New \'Dot Matrix\' stereo is in.
This is an FYI.
I am now on my THIRD stereo. The first two were earlier versions. The current one is the 'dot matrix' variety.
I don't know for sure if this is still a Clarion, but Minuteman VW in Bedford, MA explained to me that they have had a lot of problems with them, specifically the channels buring out when using the cassette. Either the left or the right side speakers stop working. So this is supposed to be a panasonic now.
Well, crossing my fingers, the latest one has absolutely stunning sound compared to the first two! The seperation of the bass, mid-range, and high notes is distinctly better. Here's hoping this one lasts a good long time.
Only downside is that I used to think it was really cool to play the stereo at night, parked, with the lights out and just that indigo lazor line from the stereo glowing.
Yeah, well, watcha gonna do...
At least I don't have to do the radio station hop anymore - long live private, commercial-free music collections!
