Hey y'all.

Good to see Peter and some of the other familiar names and faces around.

Nuke is still here. Hanging out in Campbell. My wife still has her TDI Beetle. It's about time for an oil change. Anyone know where to get some Delvac 1, or whatever oil is in favor these days?

My 'vette is still trouble-free and doing great.

Bought a 1965 Piper Cherokee 180 (airplane). Wish I could say the same for it. Had to have the engine overhauled. Shop will deliver the engine this week. Waiting for the engine mount to come back from the mount shop.

I get my real delvac 1 from Curtis at Burlingame Texaco. He orders Delvac by the case(4 one gallon jugs). His number is 650-347-0486.

Just got back from Dynoing my car. I was expecting 140/270. I got 136/275. I second run was much like the 1st but took a big hit above 3000 rpms because of heat soak. I'll post the graphs when they are emailed to me.

This is with rc2asv, b203, and 11mm pump. This is close to my normal everyday setup. I did not max the IQ or anything. I was a little pissed in that yesterday I played with the timing because lots of people were saying they have more power and better economy with the timing set at 2.0 btdc. I knew better but I figured maybe there was something to it. Well they were wrong. My car runs better with the static timing set close to zero and the requested set at 0.9. So I still have to play a little to get the car back to where I like it but live and learn.

Dan, had problems with the box. It was not picking up the fuel pulses. I ran out to the store and bought a new battery and still nothing. After playing for a few minutes the tech noticed some readings when I was playing with the sensor lead. We ended closing the terminal around the pickup connector and it started to work. On both runs the sensor stopped reading at about 3400 rpms and resumed at 3500 rpms. Don't know why but other then those two problems it worked wonderfully.

Because the way it was organized I ended up running early and Eric was scheduled for 3pm. I didn't want to hang out because it was a really young group and Krauted out cars and they all but laughed at the fact I wanted dyno a diesel. And they were not impressed by torque numbers they just wanted to see big HP. I ended up giving the the device to Eric for his Dyno run at 3pm.

Revo was there and started to do chipping. They still don't have a TDI program and he had no idea when and if their PD program from Europe would make it over here.

Celebrating today 100.000 miles with power mods! Chipped the car after the first GTG in MV at 535 miles, odo reads 100.535 this morning...... 100K with combinations of 4 chips, 4 sets of injectors, 1 tuning box and the thing still goes!

Not only, but would like to use this opportunity and to put few nice words about this car - the most reliable that I have ever owned! I know most here are unhappy with their TDIs, but I feel very positive so far and wanted to share it, so to say that not all our cars are pure crap.

So, let me introduce you with the list of things that failed during these 100.000 miles:

- Left Front Window regulator broke at 85.000 miles. Replaced for free by dealer (he replaced all four, they say it was a recall, so it was prone to failure anyway, I guess)

Other than that - Nothing, my fellows! Still on original brakes, original MAF, original whatever you can think of. It can all blow tomorrow if it wishes, it served me great for longer that I was expecting. Wish you all the same reliability with whatever you drive!

Peter, that's great news. I hope you're doing well - - don't see you around too much any longer.

I hope your next 100k miles are as uneventful as the first! Best of luck.

I'm looking for some track wheels and a short block gentlemen.

WHEELS:
The wheels I'm looking for are the BBS Wolfies (Wolfsburg) to those of German decent who may be offended by that term of endearment.
Wolfsburg pictures:

SHORTBLOCK:
A (00-03) short block with low miles would be fine. I tore my block down to build a supreme shortblock with all the bells and whistles. I am awaiting some misc. parts from Brazil, and the UPS kit from Rene that I ordered on 12/07/04. The Brazil parts should be here within a month or two. Please PM me if any California/Nevada/Utah members have any leads. I'm up in Truckee/Tahoe/Reno area about once a month, usually the first weekend of the month. I won't mind driving a couple of hours to pick it up.

Thanks.

Jay - the Wolfsburg are heavy (20 lb) and expansive. If it is really for track, get steelies from a NB, same size - 20$ each!

For the other three who posted before you ----->

edited: Dorf, I am still here, but you do not see much as there is really nothing much to say anymore. It had been all pretty much covered long before I even got here...... the number of folks who go 140 mph with their stock cars had also been dramatically reduced, so there is nothing to post about anymore

Hey Nuke, the scary thing about Krispy Kreme is that they don't have any waste oil, it's all consumed by us!, I was looking at them as a possible supplier and the manager looked at me as if I was crazy.....

Hi guys, I just got back from a sweet trip to the desert. A few pictures featuring the Golf here:

http://Diesel.smugmug.com/gallery/396366

and I have to share just one, to prove that the TDI Golf, carefully driven, can get places other folks only go in their big SUVs and Jeeps. This was in Anza Borrego, a lookout called Font's Point. Four miles of sandy wash and a bit of rock climbing at the end. The car did great, just slow on the big stuff. We scraped a few times, but no leaks

The Southern California desert is beautiful right now, if you can dodge the rain drops and the flash floods. Flowers are coming out, days are slowly getting warmer. Anza Borrego is nice in that you can camp anywhere, just pull over on a dirt road and make your campsite. Oh, yes, the desert is also fun for high speed runs on empty roads...

See you at the next GTG.

Some great shots! I do a fair amount of dirt roading and back country exploring in my Jetta too. My front spoiler isn't too happy and I did crack the pan once because I took my eyes off the road for a second.

Andrew, I am done with your dampers. Let me know how can I get them back to you. Let me know if you do NOT want them anymore, I will gladly cut them in pieces for you

Unbelievable feat at Fonts. Must be hard sand on account of the rain. I've been up there when no 2-wheel drive could have made it. Congrats.

Actually, the sand was pretty soft that day... I had been up there before in 4WD and knew what was coming. Either stupidity or bravado made me try it in the Golf. Several times I said to my wife, "This might be the end of us", but we just floated over the loose stuff, in 2nd gear on the torque. I thought to stay in 1st, but didn't want to lose momentum. We definitely turned some eyes when the Jeeps showed up behind us!

Pyce, yeah, I want them back but I'll look for next convenient time, unless you're up here in Berkeley someday.

I always love taking a two wheel drive places where the average 4X4 owners fear to go! I had a 69 Datsun 510 that I bought for $500. It's sole purpose was for reckless offroading/ralley type driving. There were several times 4X's asked where 2 wheel drive road was because they didn't like the way they came up. I look at them and said; "Momentum is your friend!" This goes hand in hand with the dirt bike philosophy; "When in doubt...GAS IT!"

Now why would I do that to a classic Datsun when I have a Toyota 4X...because sometimes 4X'ing is just too boring. I've also done that to an old Nissan pickup. Fun Stuff!

I just installed my Euro Recaro seats. Very nice and I do like them alot. I was worried about my portly butt fitting but it's fine. If anyone is looking at doing this mod keep in mind the seat doesn't go as far back as stock and even at it's lowest setting the seat does sit higher. I'm 6'2" and I'm still not touching the ceiling and find the seating comfortable.

Bare in mind too that if you are also going to upgrade to heated seats, the seat belt electrical connection is intergrated with the heating connection. For the time being, I'm not ready to do the heat so I'm looking for a way to mikey mouse the connection. There is a second connector in the center of the seat that looks like it maybe for seatbelts but it is a slightly different connector. When I get a chance to pour over the diagrams I will verify the wire color code before wiring. My airbag light is on because of the lack of the seatbelt signal so my airbags will not deploy.

I will fix this issue next week as this weekend is a snowshoing backpacking adventure! BE VERY VERY QUIET, I'M HUNTING YETY!

Have a great weekend all!

Cool pics, do you have LSD?
Sorry, we dropped the last of our acid up at The Racetrack in northern Death Valley. Now that was a trip...
20 miles of washboard roads taken at the breakneck speed of 3 MPH, each hump feeling like Evel Kneivel's launch over the Snake Canyon gorge. There are few places more remote, more alien, than The Racetrack, where the rocks move...

I love camping in the Desert. The Golf served us well, I missed 4WD in some places, but once I get the 1-inch lift kit I'll be okay. Maybe it's time for the steel skid plate, too...

Is there any good explanation as to why those rocks move? I've heard lots of plausible theories, but I don't know if anything has been proven...

Click on the image I posted - I did it as a link to a page that studies the movement. During rainstorms the "dry" lake bed turns slick and the rocks glide when strong enough gusts push them.

Damn, I go away for a little while and this place turns into an Italian and British sports car forum....

Been spending too much time on the Honda ricer-racer and the TDI is still a stock daily driver. Haven't lost the faith, tho. I'll be driving a Civic 1.7 CTDi SPORT diesel in Portugal later this month. Be curiious to see what Honda can do with compression ignition....
