We get the Ponitac Aztec on this side of the pond....jealous?
Why would we be interested in a VW Cup car that drives like a dream, when we can get Ford Excursions and "own" the road? We are having serious energy problems in the states with shortages and outrageous prices, but still making all the SUV's the "pig 3" can cram down consumers throats, while the Euro diesels are all off shore.
I wonder if we will ever "see the light"?

CFriedriszik - ...and I used to think you were a nice guy. How cruel to show us this. Of course we will not get it. Too much fun for us to handle. Some US attorney would have VW in a US court for "making" us drive so fast. That there is even a brochure is good sign that VW knows they need to add some spice to these cars. But will I go blind from looking?

Well, "fast" is relative. With its 225hp the RSi will do only some 230km/h which is considered slow if you take the hp into account. And I fear that is because of drag limitation and not gearing - which means you spend a awful lot of time reaching top speed.

To earn some respect, the top speed had to be more like 240km/h or even 250km/h (The 330i set this new benchmark for 230hp cars).

If it does only around 230km/h it gets pissed by every souped up Audi A3 1.8T (quite common for boyracers here).

Verdict: needs two turbos to have it cooking ...

OTOH you can live with a little less top speed if you only have enough oomp to cover the gaps in traffic quickly enough, because you´d need to go out on christmas eve or during a soccer championship to find the roads empty enough for more than 1-2 minutes of (top) top speed.

Finally, an advantage to living out in the great American desert. I literally live at the eastern edge of inhabited California. East of my house there are wide open roads for hundreds of miles with nothing but an occasionaly jack rabitt or tortoise wandering onto the road. This summer I crossed that area a few times, at plus 120MPH (200kmh) for several miles. But even on wide open vacant roads, I chickened out and dropped down to a more civilized 90MPH (140kmh). Funny how that seems slow after going so fast. BTW- I'm Upsoluted, and the engine had even more acceleration potential -- but I backed off. My driving skills are not up to that speed.

A couple of issues here. I was amazed to see that the new sporty Lupo is heavier than the Mk 1 Golf! Which all shows why car acceleration has deteriorated so much. My old Escort XR3i (1983), 105 bhp Euro spec, was furious off the line, 8.something to 60, and would hit 120mph in favourable conditions, all the while being big enough for four people and their luggage (unlike the Lupo). The similarly sized Golf GTI MKII which replaced it was a better car but not as urgent off the line. Now it seems you need nearly 200 bhp to beat these figures. Modern cars are just too heavy, and this adversely affects fuel consumption too. What you need is to put Sky Pup's engine in a Mk 1 Golf......second point, what skill is needed to drive 120 mph on a straight empty road?

Duck, I don´t know where you are flying around, but I can tell what you were smoking recently ...

The Lupo GTI is faster than the Ur-GTI by a good measure.

Ur GTI I
110 hp / 9.0 sec / 182km/h
Lupo GTI
125hp / 8.3 sec / 205km/h
Golf II GTI 16V
139 hp / 8.1 sec / 208 km/h

The XR3i never ever made 0-60 in sub 9 secs. http://www.xrfords.fsnet.co.uk/xr3i_mfi.htm
says 9.6 sec. 0-60mph
Damn, hard to find any acceleration data - they seem to be ashamed http://www.xr3i.co.uk/ has none.

The NB RSi is too slow for it´s price, though.
