Need Transmission - 2005 Passat TDI Wagon w Tiptronic

Need to find a source for a good working transmission. I have a 2005 Passat Wagon TDI with tiptronic transmission GMR mileage 118,000. My transmission is not work properly. Mechanic says I need to rebuild or buy a new one. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. Car works in limp home mode. The engine check code reads "incorrect gear ratio gear 2".

You live in Murrietta. Isn't there a huge "Pick-a-Part" in Anaheim or Irvine? You could check there because those transmissions, even rebuilt, run over 5k from the dealer. It's a racket. They take your old one and rebuild that, sell it to another person for $5k.

There are several causes. Road test diagnosis should be done to function check the gearbox. It could just need a solenoid set and new oil, or there could be a problem with one of the speed sensors. More information is needed before deciding to chuck the whole unit.

You may very well have moisture in your Transmission Control Module (TCM) or wiring to the TCM which is located under the carpet in front of the passenger side front seat. Before you go replacing transmissions you need to pull that carpet back and check.

Because there are not many 2005 Passat TDI, you may not be able to find a used transmission easily. On the other hand, you may be lucky to get one from the dealer. See if VWTDIonly.com can help you in this matter. They are located in Whittier, near I-605 and I-5 in LA county.

DR. Volks here is your mechanic one of the trusted TDI mechanics from the list?
A few things that needed to be checked is the codes.
The shiftier in the car can go bad most of the time its a bad penny stuck in the slider.
The shifter switch on the side of the tranny under the left tranny mount.
The contort going in the bottom of the tranny.
and water in the passenger floor.
You finding a good used on is like 90% they are bad.
Find a good re builder from here and just get it done.

Has your balance shaft been replace yet. This will have to replace down the road it about a 3k job. Just something to think about.

Everyone is doing deletes now it seems like. (much cheaper)
