My 2009 Golf 1.9TDI came with the factory 6-speaker system - so the front doors each have a separate woofer and tweeter but no mid, and there are no crossovers.

I'm planning to install my own mids and I've grabbed two crossovers from my local VW specialist breaker's yard. I'm leaving the rear speakers as factory.

It ought to be a simple job wiring everything up, but I'm confused as to why the wiring diagram is showing the mid as having two positive inputs and the tweeter as two negatives.

It looks like the wiring on the 12-pin crossover connector should be straighforward:

Pin 1 – positive input to crossover
Pin 2 – negative input to crossover

Pin 3 – positive output to woofer
Pin 4 – negative output to woofer

Pin 7 – positive output to mid
Pin 6 – negative output to mid

Pin 9 – positive output to tweeter
Pin 10 – negative output to tweeter

So what's the point of the positive on pin 5 (additional positive to mid) and negative on pin 8 (additional negative to tweeter)? Since all the speaker connectors are 4-pin, is it something to do with looping through and feeding the additional rear speakers that would be there on the factory 10-speaker system, but which I don't have?
