crooked local used dealer shop actually stole my Bose amp out of my Q7, so I need to recode a used one and I think it can only be done with an ODIS bluetooth setup. Still fuzzy on that. Not giving dealer $300 for that. Looking for club/friend prices.

Well, all I have is the ross-tech unit, which at least should be able to plug in and read.

check with Uwe at ross-tech.com or check with some of the forum members around here or over at Audizone.

The amp is one of the things that are part of the Component Protection pairing through the car's Gateway module.
To remove that CP blocking the functionality of the amp, you do need ODIS, a VAS5054 dongle, and a login to VW's servers (IOW, no, VCDS can't do it).
If you have the hardware (VAS5054), it's pretty easy to get a virtual machine with the ODIS software pre-installed and then get someone to do the work remotely (for much less than $300).

CP removal is at most a 30-minute operation (and that'd include driving the car into the bay and getting it set up). I got it done by a guy in Finland in less than an hour, and that was with having to work around pairing a part (heated steering wheel on 2016 A3 e-tron) that was never made available on my model of car (the CP "removal" isn't so much "removal" as VW servers confirming and authorizing that the part you're installing is indeed allowed to pair with your car....and those VW servers turn up their nose at installing a part that the factory has never fitted to that particular model).

If it takes your dealer 2hrs of shop time, they're grossly incompetent or totally gouging you.

Fair point.
The local guy to whom I sold my MIB1 head unit/display was quoted 3/4hr, but they managed to get that up to a full hour (plus $12 worth of "shop supplies"....don't get me started) because they needed to "figure out" how to change the head unit from outputting via the fibre-optic (MOST) connector to an amp (my car) directly to the speakers (his stereo)....a process which is literally two mouse clicks.

If you imagine service managers as sociopaths, service techs as golems and VAG N.A. as Sauron himself, it all becomes clear. My opinion is scientific fact.

Can't say I'm surprised now having experienced about 3-4 times things going missing (skid plate was the worst - how do you forget to put it back on and then misplace it...). My guess is a combo of people straight taking ish that they shouldn't to "they forgot to put it back on" honest mistake... I see you're in CO meatwad, may I ask what area you're in?
