I'm in the middle (literally) of replacing an output shaft flange seal and cannot, for the life of me, get the seal out. Prying in the usual way simply bent the narrow, metal lip that I am prying against. The seal is not wide (thick) enough to screw a sheet metal screw into. So can anybody out there give me a tip on how to get the friggin' seal out?

I just replaced my left side seal, I used a 5$ seal puller, what are you using?

A large flat-blade screw-driver. Did you use one of those broad L-shaped pullers or one of the thinner "batwing" shaped pullers?

not for faint of heart

drill a small pilot hole in face of seal, not too close to od. Screw in short #6 pan head metal screw. Pull on head of screw with vise-grips. Cant pull it out? clamp vise grips with other vise-grips and give it a good whack. worked for me. only slightly smashed the side of my hand! don't damage seal bore!
