Hey guys need some help here I changed out the timing belt and injection pump and clutch this weekend and made sure it’s was at TDC cam locked in place injection pump locked in with pin and crank locked in with special tool the flywheel is right on the TDC mark primed the pump and it won’t start. I’m getting fuel to the injectors rechecked the TDC to make sure timing didn’t move and I’m dead on. Only thing I can think of at this point is the IP is bad. Here are some pics of what I checked.

All your timing looks good, you may want to double check the pump. There's a spot where it "feels" like it's timed, but it's a false hole. Get a mirror in there and you'll see it.

IP may still have a lot of air in it. Ran into that when I overhauled a NB. Took at least an hour to get it started with on/off cranking. Made a huge mess as it kept spitting air and fuel out the injection lines.

Only other thing it may be, have you checked for codes?

No haven’t checked since the the check engine light is not illuminated. But I’ll run a check to see anyways. I have an external lift pump that sends fuel to the IP I’ll keep venting the pump maybe that will help. Once I saw fuel coming out the lines I closed them maybe I should of let of vent for a while.

Used from one of the member on the site. I’ll check to see if it’s air bound still. If not then I’ll get a new pump

You may have to advance the pump to get it to start
Or a little hammer mod, advance the pump first

Are you saying the pump maybe way too retarded to start. I’ll try advancing it to see if that works.

Yes, that should do the trick assuming you have good squirting from the hard lines at the injectors.

I've had to advance all but 2 when I did the timing belt job...I suspect my cam lock tool was slightly off and replaced it...those are the 2 that I didn't have to move to get to start

That's what I run, absolutely love the clutch, it feels weird when I go from the stock clutch in my 2000 to the 01 with the S2E, it's lighter pedal just feels weird.

If I were still there I'd have been over last night...I assume you're on duty today...

I never seem to find another tuned TDI where I'm at till I move...

Never planned on tuning it but stock 90hp trying to merge into traffic wasn’t so safe in this area. So far I upgraded the turbo, SMIC, gutted the entire suspension to Coilovers, 3” straight pipe, all the turbo piping, cold air intake, Kerma tune, race 520 nozzles, 11mm IP, clutch, staggered BBS 8.5 up front and 9.5 rear, stigma 5 short shifter, EGT Gage, Oil press gage, boost gage, GLI recaro seats. It’s been a busy two months and Last thing I’ll probably do is paint job.

That's about what I've got done but 1019 nozzles and I guess my kerma tune is a stage 3? I'm hoping to get a rocket chip tune stage 4 hopefully this summer when I iron out who is driving which TDI, 2 jettas and a beetle...the beetle is still coming around

I don’t even know what stage tune I got I just email them my updates and they send me a new tune. Is rocket chip better?

There are a lot of people that like them better, I just wanna try it and get a retune for the 11mm IP

Have you hit up Foss or u pull it...if you watch row 52 they come though from time to time...lots of good parts...

Not a bad idea to pick a head and IP and starters and fans and just odds and inns...I left with a bunch of parts from there... complete engine with IP and accessories for around 500 bux, the block still had cross hatching. Long story, bought the head thinking I only needed the head and ended up needing the short block too, number 4 cylinder had a nasty gouge down the side and a month or so ago, finally got the block out and the windage tray was melted and had stopped up the pick up tube...motor is a good candidate for a boat anchor...
