On my 2014 Passat, there’s a loud growling noise that’s evidently from a bearing. When I turn left, the weight of the car shifts to the passenger bearing and it becomes much louder.

However, I lifted the car up today and shook each wheel left and right. The driver wheel had much more play than the passenger wheel. There’s also a clunking sound (axle?) whenever I shake the wheels left and right.

A month ago, when doing the timing belt, I lifted the car from the front passenger side and left it on a jack stand over 2 nights. Could this have stressed and damaged the driver bearing? Which bearing should I change first? I only have one for now and need my car back on the road.

Check your tie rod ends for play if the driver's side seems to have more play. But be aware it's easy to be fooled into thinking there's something wrong on the driver's side due to the pinion gear making noise against the rack on that side.

I changed the passenger bearing and the growling is gone. Rear tires were also off alignment so that might have been causing some more noise. Now I’ll be addressing this play.
