There was an interesting article in the Tuesday Feb. 15, 2002 Wall Street Journal on the front page. The reporter is Russell Gold. The title is "Power Play - In Qatar, Oil Firms Make Huge Bet On Alternative Fuel - Supporters Say New Diesel Is Cleaner, More Efficient; Untested On Large Scale..."
I hope some of you have the chance to read it. It seems that Exxon Mobil is making a $15 billion dollar investment in Qatar to build a facility to convert huge natural gas reserves to a diesel fuel.
The technology is called Gas-to-Liquid or GTL. Diesel has already been made from natural gas, but the new thing is technological advances and the economy of scale.
