Any bigger pic? I still can't find one in grey with the chrome trim to look at. I am trying to decide between your color and the silver.

Congrats, did you get the auto or manual?

I got the manual. I think the Platinum grey looks cooler. I test drove a DSG but i felt I got more power with the manual.

Very sharp! Hope you have many trouble-free miles. Fuel up with a 2% biodiesel blend whenever you can.

Thanks for the bigger pic. Looks Great!

You thoughts confirm what I thought about the manual. I think I will go with the manual.

Thanks for the welcome.

Curious, is putting Biodiesel better than putting diesel + additive?

Your thoughts?

Do not put in more that 5% BioDiesel. B5 is the maximum allowed by VW in their new TDI engines. That said, research has shown that the best lubricity additive is biodiesel. Anything between B2 and B5 is better (lubricity wise) than any commercial additive I know of. If you have a reliable source for B2 to B5, this is what I would suggest running. Not everyplace has easy to find B5, if you can't find B2 to B5 - then a good lubricity additive is recommended (by me - not necessarily VW).

Have Fun!

+1. If you can only find a good source of B99, just add 1 quart per tank and you'll be approx B2 final. Add the B99 prior to fill up (splash mix).

Does this carry over to any "diy blending"? There is one station that has B20 near me: can I fill a couple gallons of B20 and then top off the rest of the tank with regular diesel 2?

don't worry too much about biodiesel if you can't find it. and about adding lubricity additives, here is something that is written from Petro-Canada (Suncor Energy) - look at #8:
http://retail.petro-canada.ca/en/independent/2060.aspx
The OP lives in So. Cal. (USA). Canada has the same diesel fuel lubricity standards as does Europe. The USA does not! American fuel does not have to have lubricity as good as in Canada. Therefore what Petro-Canada says is mostly meaningless in California.

Simply put, Yes. There is more than one way to get B5.

ULSD should have minimum regulatory lubricity levels that should be sufficient for the needs of today's ULSD based vehicles, including those from International, MAC, Volvo, VW, BMW, Ford, Cummins, Mercedes Benz.

so why spend additional money for something that offers no empirical data from the engine manufacturers?

The text in bold above is why people feel compelled to improve the lubricity of diesel from the pump.

Nice Jetta TDI

I just purchased a 2011 Golf 2dr manual candy white with black interior.
I love it this car. Nice car with lots of power and features. I like the new CR TDI engine and the 6 sp is so nice as well. Do you like yours also?

Filled up my first tank yesterday at one of these stations http://www.pearsonfuels.com/ with full intent of putting Biodiesel in my car. I got scared because it had a warning stating "Only use when manufacturer states so."

.......So I filled up with the Ultra Low Diesel instead.

Don't Worry

:)

Don't worry about what that sign sez. We need to be concerrned about lubricity.

Early on, when we first got ours, I drove the 60 miles down to PearsonFuels and mixed B20
with the regular ULSD. You will recall that both hoses come out of the same pump?
Simply tell the nice gal when you pay before pumping what you intend to do and she'll say: 'no problemo'!
If I still used bio and it weren't so far down there, I would still be doing that.

It easy to figure out the proper measurements to get whatever ratio you want.
Let's say you think you will need 15 gallons to fill it up as the light is on already.
Five percent (5%) of fifteen gallons is 3.75 of B20 on the pump correct?
Put that in, and then go the the straight ULSD side and fill it up!
Now you've got your B5. It does not have to be exact!
No mess, no fuss, and you didn't have to mix it up from a jug yourself. Luck you live close by!

As a matter of fact, I'd shoot over there ASAP and put in enough to get your B5 ratio now.
As yours is still brand new, it's best to get that extra lubricity as early as possible.
Can you take on 3.75 gallons of B20 now?

I did not do that to ours until it had 1257 miles, and I wish I'd done it sooner.
I believe that we need all the extra lubricity ASAP.
View my Fuelly and go all the way back almost to the beginning. (03-12-10).

Good luck and enjoy . . :p

I went to the station on El Cajon blvd a couple of months ago and B5 was the only thing they had available there. Something about the storage tank requirements were preventing them from having the B99 or B20. Do they have a better variety of fuels now? I've been commuting between Murrieta and San Diego (about 115 miles daily) and running around 47 mpg last few fill ups. I always add the diesel Kleen + Cetane Boost additive religiously since upon moving out to CA I immediately starting having IP issues and had to reseal it. Probably caused by the fuel requirements out here.

Emailed them earlier in the week and went for the first time yesterday evening to confirm and fill: they only have B20. It is very convenient though; thre is a ULSD pump immediately adjacent to the biodiesel pump, so splash mixing down to B5 is painless.

Just add a gallon of B20 for every three (or more) of ULSD, and you can get the biodiesel benefit without voiding the warranty.
