What equipment is included in Highline trim level?

Visually the 2011 Jetta is just fine.

I have the identical car. Had it for a week - first one on the road in Ottawa. Was looking to buy a 2010 Golf TDI but they rolled this car into the showroom while I was at the dealer. When I checked it out and saw the price compared to the Golf, I was hooked. This is my first VW and I love it. Bought it as my daily commuter car. Was after a diesel and didn;t want to pay the extra $$ for the Audi nameplate. My main vehicles are a Lexus RX 350 and Mercedes 450SL. I've read the complaints about the lower quality finishes compared to previous Jettas but have to say that the interior appearance and fit is great. The steering wheel and shift knob are leather wrapped and the door pulls are also in a softer finish leather-like vinyl. These are the main items I touch in the interior so I don't care if the finish on the dash cover is not the same grade as my Lexus. Handling is tight, ride is comfortable but still feels like you are in control. Traded an Acura RSX for this car and see negligible difference in driving performance and the seats in the Jetta are way more comfortable! The leatherette is very high quality - in line with my Mercedes, and could easily be mistaken for leather. I think it will wear better than the leather I have in my Lexus and my old Acura. Cabin noise level is quite good. For a daily driver commuter car I think the 2011 Jetta TDI is terrific.

I think the styling is very attractive - much more Audi like compared to previous versions. Does it look a bit like a Japanese car - yes but look at how well they sell in North America. Compare this car to a Prius and the Jetta wins hands down. I thin VW will do very well in the North American market with this car.

Have put 700 kms on it so far and the trip computer still shows 300 kms until I need to fill up - you just can't beat that sort of fuel economy.

Only issues I have, and they are minor, is the lack of an engine temp display on the MFD and that the bluetooth is only interactive with the large touch screen display on the radio if you have the Nav option.

Hope your buddy enjoys yours as much a I like mine.

I know folks here have not all been positive about the styling but I think the MKVI is a big improvement over the MKV. It'll be interesting to see one when they get to the states later this year or early next.

I like how the hood is more flat pronounced, I'm guessing you can see the end of it? It's pronounced similar to a mid size such as a 5 series. Coming from a RWD Volvo with what seemed like a mile long hood the one thing I hate the first time I sat in my Mk5 is the no sense of feeling of the front end, it just falls off, to me sometimes it feels like I'm driving a Yaris or Fit in that respect.

I def like the mk6 Look and probably could care less about the interior.

What kind of mileage you guys seeing up there?

740GLE,

Hard to do all the metric conversions and US vs Imperial Gallon but by my calcs I am getting around 44 mi per US gallon. I do 90% highway driving and am keeping it at about 55 mph most of the time. Compared to my other gas guzzlers, I am absolutely thrilled with the performance so far.

Also regarding seeing the hood - you don't. It drops off so you have a very clean line of sight.

I stopped at a dealer I was driving by today and they had a MKVI SEL in the showroom. Sat in the front and back, looks pretty nice to me. It's less monochromatic than my '02 GL, but the materials seem good enough--actually quite nice. And I like the rear seat space even though the rear seat seems kind of flat.

of course im bias because i just got the 2010, don't care for the front end styling on the 2011 but i do like the styling better on the rear over my 10. bout the only thing i'm jealous of is the push button start. oh well to each his own.

I like keys, that push button looks like trouble for the glow plugs.

Keys please

I'm not a fan of push button start. If keyless starting is the goal, I'd prefer a three position switch with Off, Acc, and Start/On similar to current keyed ignitions. Tactile quality is better with this type of system than push button. Ergonomic quality is also better.

No its not, press it once, turns on ACC, then wait until the glow plug light goes off and then press and hold the start button!

I'm just talking out my arse here, but seems like most diesels have the glowplug light to let you know when you are good to start it, that when it comes to push button start they could easily build that in to the overall process. In otherwords, you push the button to start, it powers up the car electricly as it would with a key in acc, THEN proceed with firing up the engine when it gets the signal the glowplugs are ready....end result being the exact same as a push button start with gas engine, but with a bit of a delay before the engine is actually running if the plugs need to be warmed.
