Just bought my winter tires today Hakkaplitta R's

They are ultra low rolling resistance tires and I got 195/60-16 so wonder if they will help??

Mine!

Interesting. My dealer, from whom I purchased my '06 TDI sedan called me last week and told me he could get a 2010 JSW in light grey w/ black interior with the 6-speed and panoramic (and the iPod adapter which is killer) for $500 over invoice. I now have ~1K miles and am getting ~44 mpg. This is considerably less than the +51 mpg I was getting with the '06 but, hey I was cruising at 73 mph on I-80 in PA. Today, commuting home from work I got my usual 53 mpg at 63 mph.

Coupla things: The iPod adapter displays my playlists on the radio screen! This is way cool! I like the bluetooth implementation but I'm not sure how to use all the features. My dealer says "it's the better bluetooth unit in JSW TDI's." We'll see... The Sirius sounds much better than in the '06. (We were able to hear the Browns get murdered in hifi stereo...)

Nowhere in the brochure do they mention that the rear includes a window shade cover standard. This is good! There's also quite a bit of under-floor storage, above the spare. This car is so much quieter than the '06 and more powerful, too. The panoramic roof is a killer app, IMHO. I'm so glad I drove it into SoHo on Saturday. Parking was almost impossible so, I was very happy when an suv had to pass on a spot that I backed into easily!

As I mentioned, I paid $500 over invoice but I got a VW-regional charge of $408. I was very happy with the trade-in value of the '06. With just under 70K, I took $13,000 which netted me over $1000 in additional tax savings. Finally, did you know that the tax we pay for a new car in fiscal 2009 is a tax deduction, like mortgage interest???

I'm a happy, 4-time VW diesel owner.;)

Invoice pricing is bogus

So what did you actually pay (compared to MSRP)? Paying $500 over invoice sounds great until you find out what they add to the "invoice" in addition to the price of the car itself. I'm picking up my JSW tomorrow and have a copy of the VW vehicle invoice. It lists a $480 charge for "San Diego VW association", a $182 charge for "full tank of fuel and interest reserve", and a $25 "port prep fee". That brings the "invoice" price to only $782 less than the MSRP! My deal was for $550 off of the MSRP with window tinting included so I guess that brings my price down to invoice! Of course there's over $400 in dealer holdback money from VW that's not mentioned but I'm happy with what I'm getting for my money. That's the only thing that matters.

Thanks Social for posting the chrome covers and rear bumper cover-both look great. I had noticed that the "chrome puke" front end of the 2009's had simply migrated towards the rear and interior of the vehicle. I am interested in both of these applications. I have a friend here with a good plotter/cutter and the know how if you are willing to share your file (for the bumper cover) or let us know if you are going to be able to cut extras. Did you precut the trim covering? Now what can we do about the chromy "visibly flared dual exhaust tips"? Sheesh.

"Priaprism club". Har! Thanks for the laugh Tomo! Yup, I just checked again. This IS the MKIV section of TDIclub.com.

I'm getting a combined 34 mpg so far on my first tank. Mostly street driving. Unfortunately the wife and I are both pretty sick with the flu like nastiness running around. Not getting to enjoy it the way I would like.

window trim and bumper cover

Hey MTjake,

Thanks for the interest, I have no prob getting you the file but honestly I'm using a mid 90s version of Flexisign and the format is not recognized by any other program that I have crossed. I'm still good getting it to you or if you prefer I can just send you off the cut piece itself. LMK.

As for the window trim covers, Yes I cut strips and installed them. The top trim measured at .65 high, the bottom at .87 high and as for the rear section with the tight curve, I cut that by hand on the vehicle.

lastly, I ordered the Chrome exhaust tip covers so when they arrive I will be sending them off to the powdercoaters to get a coating of Semi Black to complete the package.

I plan to upload some pics soon...>Sadly we had a crazy windstorm here for a couple of days, so the day after I drove off the lot, my car was coated in a perfectly even layer of yellow pollen...showing off all the places I have touched the car...natch

So, once I get the car cleaned up (tomorrow hopefully), and I have some time during the day when I've got good light to show it off. Back windows are tinted (front are illegal here in Cali). Over half a tank left and have already put 210 miles on the car. Damn I love Tha Diesel!

I picked up our new JSW TDI (White Gold/Cornsilk/DSG/MDI/mats/NO pano roof) in San Diego yesterday and drove back to Orange County against those strong headwinds (still got 35 mpg) and I love it! I'm already seeing a benefit in the light color...it doesn't show dust at all! I took a couple of late afternoon pics with the tinted windows (15% back, 30% front, but not too dark with the beige interior). Audio Car in Chula Vista did a super install job using Llumar's best tint - Axcess ATX. I'll post the pics of course. 18" wheels/tires and Eibach springs coming soon...

I got a great deal too. Thanks to Brent at South Bay VW for coming through as promised. Well worth the 90 mile train ride.

Cheers!

Awesome Stacey! I was thinking about your car too. Can't wait to see your pics too!

Avg of 34 mpg so far on my car, with a mix that leans towards city driving. My commute is 20 miles each way and almost always the whole thing is street driving.

30 mpg w/ a 6 mile commute - mostly city driving

getting maybe 38 on the highway - but I don't go far. And I've got a lead foot. I had test driven hybrids, and this is waaaayyyy more fun to drive!

Interesting...your JSW looks lower here than in the pic you posted on VWVortex. Has your car "settled" since you installed the springs? Have you actually measured the drop? My Eibachs will be installed on Wednesday. That should look funny with the stock 16" Biolines until I finalize a deal on tires and wheels.

Hey Stacey,

So true, the springs appear to have settled in a bit and now sit about .5" lower in the rear and .25" lower in the front from the original photo posted on Friday but luckily still no rubbing. It most likely is due to that the original photo was taken after about 15 miles driven on the H&Rs & the photos today were taken at about 60 miles.

I also should mention my driveway is not so level and slopes down. that may be playing a role in the way the car looks in the original photo

This is the original photo

Hey Social, I had a thought for your car, and maybe mine too...

Vinyl cover on the chrome of the grille...I'm sure you'd want to black out, but I was thinking GLI/GTI red.

Hey Grubendol,

Thanks and yes that's a great idea. I decided to use Red to cover the chrome strips so now I'm just waiting for the oe fog lights and trying to decide to Black out the emblem or keep it chrome.

Cheers,

I think it'd look nice on that car if it were smoked or painted grayish.
Or make the 'VW' red, and leave the chrome ring around it.

Yesterday, I picked up a new 2010 Sportswagon, so far so good. Now I need to find a good hitch for it. Any good deals on the Bosal, or Westfalla I should know about?

my first new car

hi all,
i too have a new jsw, well not yet. it just arrived at patrick motors in auburn mass. i should be able to get everything together by midweek and pick it up. it is salsa red w/sunroof and dsg. i paid $600 under msrp and they gave me a decent offer on my 4dr 2005 golf gls tdi with 81k on it.
needless to say i am excited but having a little stress reading about the check engine light stuff, etc that i am seeing on the forum. if i have any issues i will definitely look to this community for some help.
my experience with patrick motors so far has been good. the saleswoman (very young) was not very knowledgeable at all though. there are other salespeople who seem to be more informed and helpful. more to come when i get up there and deal with the fine print. any advice is welcome. i will post photos when i get the car. as far as i know they will be retailing the golf.
peace

Heya dj,
Congrats! From what little I know, that's a decent price for this area now.
As for the engine light hassle, I can't say I know what is up with that - it's too bad that it's been a problem for some people, but not all are affected by the problem; just over 1k miles and I haven't had any issues yet fwiw. Time will tell, I guess. Nor was mine affected by the dsg recall issue...
BTW Social - that is one very sweet looking JSW ;)

I'm getting mine tomorrow!

I'm going to pickup my Black/Black w/pano/DSG/18" Black Karthoum wheels tomorrow.
Planing to do a 35% Llumar tint all around, and replace the front upper grill with a '10 GTI grill sans the GTI Badge. Also looking into using the lower grill from the GTI but I'm not sure it will work.
Black out the chrome window trim (Maybe we can convince Social Casualty to create a black-out kit for us - I think he could get quite a few takers.)
Drop it with either the H&R's or wait for a correct fitment for a Bilstein coil-over kit. Hopefully will look like this when done, maybe even lower.

Mine is 3 weeks old and has 1400 miles. I've got a long commute and this beauty is saving me a ton of cash on gas.

Love that Blue Graphite/Cornsilk!

Nice color/interior combo, my first choice, but I found my White Gold/Cornsilk with the MDI iPod adapter that I really wanted. At least the White Gold is proving to be low maintenance - it really hides the dust well - and stays cooler on the inside.

Here is a pix of the "uncovered" engine. I wanted this one for posterity as it is so clean. Wait until the rust belt gets its grubhooks on this.
