I'd like to get one of those installed. How much is the dealer charging to install the clear-bra? Anyone put one of these on themselves?

Wonder why VW would decide to use two different generations of platforms for the 2010+ Golf (updated 5th gen) vs 2011 Jetta 6th gen.
Doesn't seem to fit the whole economies of scale theory...
The A5 Jetta has been out since 2005.5. A 2011 redesign is about right -- a 5 year production run.

The JSW (Golf Estate elsewhere) started life in 2009, as an A5. It would be completely foolish of VW to do a complete overhaul only 2 years later. There is a ton of expensive tooling that would have to be thrown away. You have no idea how many $100k's it costs to make the stamping tools that mold the body side sheet metal panels alone, much less everything else that goes into the car.

The reason for the refresh was that VW needed the Golf Estate to look like the new A6 Golf. So they freshened up -- much earlier than they really would want to. I'm sure their purchasing department HATES this. But the Marketing folks needed to have this refresh happen sooner. So they did a refresh that keeps the A5 structure but has some A6 features, like the new nose, instrument panel, door trim, etc.

It amazes me that a company can make these sorts of 'Frankenwagens' well. But look at the A3 Cabriolet that had the A3 underbody and interior, but they added an A4 nose on it to make it look like the A4 Golf

I just purchased the same car with corn silk interior today. The dealer is adding an IPOD integration wiring kit and installing it for $350.00. My car only came with a aux input port under the armrest. The IPOD kit will be integrated with power and all...so I can keep an IPOD in the glove box. Not sure if it was worth the extra money... I had a white gold car on order... but succumb to the beautiful blue with the larger wheels.
The car feels a lot richer and nicer than my '06 TDI.
If you have an iPhone or iPod touch with bluetooth, you can pair it with the unit in the JSW (which I believe has bluetooth standard, at least it was on mine) and have it play OTA. Pretty fancy, and sounds great. It does drain the batteries pretty quickly on my 3GS, though, so I bought a cheap dual USB port cigarette lighter adapter. Now my wife and I can both charge our phones and listen to music during trips.

Thanks for that tip. I will try that out before having the dealer install the cable. I think the part that will be missing is the internal control from the actual Audio System.

I do have an "input" in jack so I can stream the music in that way... but again, no power or stereo. I do have on e of the USB cigarette and 110 adapters... so power should not be a problem.

With a CD player, 20GB hard drive, and Sat Radio... Perhaps the whole IPOD integration is really not worth it. 90% of the time I listen to Talk Radio anyway.

Pics!

Here we go. I love it so much! Havent found a thing I don't like about it yet.
I'm going to put a rack on top and tint the windows when I save up enough money. I might also install the fog lights.

Depends on how much you want covered. My dealer is charging about $650 or so to have the front bumper, fenders, mirrors, hood, little strip above windshield and I'm getting a strip put on my rear bumper to protect from the dogs when they jump in and out.

Putting it on is doable yourself.. i've read many a thread where people have.. but they say its frustrating and will take you a whole day if not more. I decided to pass on this one.. plus this way it comes with a 5 yr 60,000 mile warranty.

My dealer called me today to let me know their first shipment of 2010 JSW's have arrived! Took some pictures with my cell phone so the quality isn't great...
Eight JSW's in all. All sold already.
Five candy white, one black, one reflex silver, one blue graphite.

By any chance, you don't live down the street from me, do you?

Search was useless. I even found a thread with the words in the title, and there was no mention of what I wanted to know. Any reports?

Wheels

Sorry for not getting back to you. I've been having too much fun driving around. It's amazing how much pick-up it has off the line with the diesel. And it really doesn't lose too much at higher speeds. The wheels are 17's. I didnt like the way the 18's looked. Just a little too big and gangster for me. For the other guy who asked, the sunroof is perfectly quiet at highway speeds. You dont even notice its open. It has a little mesh net that pops up in the front when you slide it back that kind of "catches" the wind. I live in so cal and I was a little worried it would get too hot in the car with the big sunroof but I havent noticed it yet.

OK I re-read the post. I guess I was asking for specifics as the sound level can change with speed. For instance, the Scion TC sunroof is fine at low speeds, but is less than comfortable on the freeway.

Thanks for your input though. :)

My First Problems on my 2010 JSW TDI

First of all - I love my car. It just squirts through traffic. I have put on almost 350 miles in less than 5 days. The DSG makes the car very peppy. And the Pano Roof is, as stated in the forum, very very quiet. The car feels very safe at highway speeds.

I just left my little wago in the service shop - the fuel filler door wouldn't open. The service guy had to pry it open with a pocket knife  . They may have to replace the servo. Did the 2009s have a different sort of fuel door release? Having to push on the door to get it to release seems a little funky.

The second issue is the steering wheel (or alignment) is off by a few degrees. If I center the steering wheel (turning it just a bit clockwise), the car would go to the right.

Thanks for listening.

My A4 has a fuel door release button on the driver's door, with a servo at the fuel door. But I saw a 2009 JSW at a local GTG and it had the push-to-open/push-to-close mechanism. Cost cutting, I would guess. I don't like it because it's not as secure. Someone could monkey with it and put something in your tank.

I hate dealers. They gouged up my vent assembly when they replaced the 4-way flasher under a recall. Those guys never know how to do anything gently. You never use a metal tool like a screwdriver or a pocketknife. They make special plastic pry sticks for that sort of thing, and they have them in their toolboxes somewhere, but seem to not know how to use them. At the very least, a metal tool ought to be wrapped in tape before using it as a prying tool on any trim or anything else visual.

I just picked mine up yesterday and drove all over hell and creation. The pano roof is very nice. Not noisy at all. When opening it all the way (you hold the knob to open it just that little extra bit more) there is a an issue where you can feel a thrumming via pressure, but crack a window and its gone. It's only there when you open it ALL the way, going beyond the pre-set intervals.

My only complaint with the roof... well.. not really a complaint but just something I noticed will be not so fun is the deflector. In regular sunroofs it is a plastic molding that directs the air up, this is a screen or a diffuser of sorts. After driving around for an hour with the roof open I had quite a few bugs caught in it. Keep a can of compressed air handy at home so you can blow them out of there.

All in all, a fantastic car. My first diesel and I love the feel of the engine, the weight of the car and the overall handling with the additional weight. It's very different than my VR6 GTI... because of the torque It still feels as if it has balls and in some cases it actually feels faster due to the increased weight.

Thanks for the report asphix, and congrats on your car. I never thought about bugs getting caught in the diffuser, funny.

Can't wait to get mine.

I'm pretty sure that the fuel filler door will only open if the car is unlocked. I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time :)

That also happened on my 2010 sedan, i'd say 1-2 degrees, I am planning to have them adjust it on the 90 day or 6K check up end in the November.
