Wonder why VW would decide to use two different generations of platforms for the 2010+ Golf (updated 5th gen) vs 2011 Jetta 6th gen.
Doesn't seem to fit the whole economies of scale theory...
I suspect they are manufactured in different factories. I know Jettas and NBs are made in Mexico. Are the 2010 Golfs made in Germany (or some place else)? This is probably the reason. One factory (or more) has been re-tooled for MKVI, but the Mexico factory gets updated next year. It is not uncommon for companies to spread major re-tooling costs over several years.

My real question is since 2010 Jettas are still MKVs, should this MKVI forum be limited to only 2010 Golfs? Next year it could expand with 2011 Jettas, etc. This is a call the mods are going to have to make.

After a 4 year drought (due to a MkV GTI) I was able to get back into the TDI crowd last night. The salesperson at Keffer Volkswagen in Charlotte called yesterday with two available SportWagens. I picked the graphite blue TDI wagen with DSG and the sunroof. Paid the sticker price since there was a wait list.

Feels good to be back!

Edit: more photos available on my flickr stream.

THATS MY CAR! The wait can't be too much longer now that I see one in someones driveway. I like the biolines. Thanks for posting the pic.

Also, are the 2010 JSW's considered Mk6's? They are a blend of both Mk5 (drivetrain/platform) and Mk6 (sheetmetal and interior).

They're MkVs for sure, though I bet people will end up referring to them as A5.5, similar to the B5.5 Passats. Only the front end is MkVI and the interior is a cross between the MkV and MkVI. VW does such strange things!

They are considered by VW to be MKVI even though they are on the MKV platform (with cosmetic updates).

Go check the vortex in the ask a sales person thread where TurboPaul confirmed this information. All internal marketing, etc calls the 2010 JSW a MKVI.

Very strange, considering it's already been determined that a lot of the control modules and such are different.

Yeah.. my only guess is they are doing it so the general public's understanding will also match that of what their marketing team puts out.

They'll leave it to the enthusiasts and mechanics to deal with the technicalities.. even if it does make things fairly confusing.

I can see it now, people with '10 JSWs will be asking detailed questions and everyone in the MkVI forum will be referring them to the MkV forum since it's essentially the same car as the '09 JSWs, save for the cosmetic changes.

My car is at the dealership. Went to see it tonight. Nice front end, different dash - racier looking, doesn't have the air diffuser thingy anymore. I'm waiting for 5 spoke wheels to be put on it (why the dealer didn't order them when we put the deposit on the car I'll never know) Anyway, it's there and it looks good!

What wheels did it come with? As far as I know, they're either standard 16" Biolines or optional 17" Portos for the JSW TDI?

wheels on my car

The car came with the 10 spoke wheels shown on the white JSW in tomo366's photo in this thread (I'm pretty sure, I'll have to go look again tomorrow and take a picture with my camera.) I 'ordered' the car with some optional 5 spoke wheels (and the mat kit), so since the car came in without them (since I didn't really order it - they just happened to have the right color/interior/tranny/roof combo coming in) the dealer is ordering the wheels and I'll buy the car once the new wheels (and mat kit) are on it.

Those 10 spoke wheels are the 17" Portos, which add about $400 somethin'. Actually they could be the 16" Sedonas, although that would be the first I've heard of them delivered.

Since the JSW got the new interior treatments, why not the sedan too? That's all I'm saying :)
Looking at a few of the pics but not sitting in one, the interior of the 2010 JSW vs the Sedan are almost virtually identical, i guess the only small difference in the 4 pictures i've seen, is there is no little triangle cut out either the front center console on the JSW.

Other then that, the sedans have the faux carbon fiber accent on the dash and door panels, and everything else I've seen the JSWs have.

The one I saw in town had roundish rear lights, almost like the ones on a sedan. I don't know if they were custom ordered or not. Again, this was a JSW that was a gasser, tho that shoudn't make much of a difference, I would think.

Interior Changes

The hood that shades the instrument cluster looks a little more sleek as well. Less like a dome. The guages themselves look a little bigger, tilted and encased. This is fun. Kind of like one of those find the differences between the two pictures game.

Oh, thanks for posting the 09 and 10 pics side by side. I'm going to take pictures of mine today after work (I hope) and will post the pictures of the stock (I guess) wheels. Sticker, too.

wheels on jsw

The car we're buying came delivered w/ 17" Porto's (a ~$400 option). Stock wheels are 16" something or other. We're getting the 17" silver Goals (not sure how to spell...) which adds another $600 or so to the price on top of the $400. Oh well. It's what I wanted.

the goal wheels are alot cheaper to buy elsewhere, though. but then i'd have a set of portos to sell and have to pay to have these mounted

No air diffuser in the '10 JSW

I was sorry to see that the air diffuser was gone when I first looked in my wagon. When we were thinking of a wagon, waffling between an 09 and 10 - checking out German website, brochure, etc. it never even occurred to me that the diffuser wouldn't be there. Oh well. I was looking forward to it.

My dealer called me today to let me know their first shipment of 2010 JSW's have arrived! Took some pictures with my cell phone so the quality isn't great...
Eight JSW's in all. All sold already.
Five candy white, one black, one reflex silver, one blue graphite.

Or you could have kept the portos and thrown some winter tires on them, and bought the goals with summer tires. That's what I plan on doing and is why mine is coming with the stock 16" since those will work best with winter tires.

Got one!

I had ordered a 2009 JSW back in June and they upgraded me to the 2010 model mid-production. Just went and picked it up today and it looks sweet! blue graphite, 17" goal gray wheels, anthracite interior, navigation. Ill post some pictures when I get a chance. Does anyone know if I can add the ipod integration now that its already here?

I just purchased the same car with corn silk interior today. The dealer is adding an IPOD integration wiring kit and installing it for $350.00. My car only came with a aux input port under the armrest. The IPOD kit will be integrated with power and all...so I can keep an IPOD in the glove box. Not sure if it was worth the extra money... I had a white gold car on order... but succumb to the beautiful blue with the larger wheels.

The car feels a lot richer and nicer than my '06 TDI.
