Nice color/interior combo, my first choice, but I found my White Gold/Cornsilk with the MDI iPod adapter that I really wanted. At least the White Gold is proving to be low maintenance - it really hides the dust well - and stays cooler on the inside.

Better move your car before you get a ticket for parking next to that hydrant. :D:D

My 2010 JSW in White Gold/Cornsilk should be arriving soon. Based on how good those wheels and H&Rs look, your car is going to have an identical twin in New England. Thanks for blazing the trail.

Nice catch. I never noticed the hydrant until I edited the photo. Of course I only parked there long enough to catch the afternoon sun for the photo. The White Gold really changes it's color in different lighting.

You might want to investigate suspension limiters to prevent rubbing. The freeways and roads I most frequently use here in So Cal are smooth enough that I rarely bottom out/rub but it does happen often enough that I wouldn't recommend this setup in areas with poorer roads. I haven't loaded my JSW down to see if the rubbing gets worse since I have my Dodge Ram for the heavy lifting. Eventually, I'm sure I'll have to address the issue if only to satisfy the wife.

Soon to have a 2010 JSW
My commute is almost entirely city/surface street and when I am on the freeway, it's rarely "moving".

That being said, I'm averaging 35 mpg so far on my first three tanks of gas. Still kinda blows my mind that I could be at 1400 miles and have only filled up three times.

Taking my baby out for his first road trip the end of December. LA to Sacramento with a side trip to Ess Eff. Can't wait to see what my MPGs look like on that trip.

Stacey, your ride looks nice. Those are great rims on your JSW.

And Social, the more I think on it, the more I think I'd like to match the blue of the TDI logo on my grille covering...

A suggestion . . .

Change that one word to fuel. When you say 'fuel,' that covers both gasoline and diesel.

I'm still catching myself making that mistake. Old habits are hard to break so please be patient with us diesel rookies! I've been driving for 36 years so I figure that's about 1900 fill-ups with "gas" vs 2 fill-ups with diesel so I'm probably not done using gas yet. I have learned to look for "fuel" stations rather than just "gas" stations. Thank goodness for the excellent range of our TDI equipped VWs.

Grubendol - We're taking our JSW on a lengthy road trip up to Napa Valley for Thanksgiving...then returning down the coast through Monterey & Big Sur on the return run home. I'm looking forward to setting personal "fuel" economy records on the boring 5 frwy drive north and testing our JSW's new handling capabilities on the twisty (and scenic) coastal route home.

We Were All New at One Time

Too true...I'm new to this whole Diesel thing ;) Thanks!
:)

At one time way back, yours' truly was also new to this diesel thing.;)
1966 to be exact. Seem like such a long time ago.
My how fast those 43 years disappeared! :(

Enjoy. Private vehicles are so much better now than back then.
I wish you could drive an old 1961 190 DB. Shake rattle and run! 55 horsepower, no torque,
four on the tree, three main bearings, but it would get good mileage. 28-32 mpg, whereas
the Olds 88 it replaced got only 10 mph. Diesel was far less expensive back then
than was Premium gasoline, but really hard to find. Had to go to the truck stops.
Now, almost every corner has at least one station that carries diesel 'fuel.'
Back then, there was no place to purchase fuel in T.O. (Thousand Oaks) so I contracted with a Shell distributor in Moorpark, and he would come to my house and fill my two barrels I kept in my garage. He called that his "keep full service." My wife would call him and he'd come within a couple of days and run his long hose up my driveway and pump 114 gallons into the two barrels I kept and
that would run me for six weeks.
Are you ready for this? 15.6 cents per gallon plus 5.25 percent sales tax.
For 114 gallons she would write the dealer a check for $18.72.
Putting it another way, six tenths of a cent per mile for fuel. ( No road taxes!)

Back then, gasoline was running in the 30 cents a gallon range, so you can see how much
money we saved. Triple the mileage on fuel that cost half as much.
Have had fourteen diesels since then.

Only 75 mph if there was no grade and no wind and only in the daytime.
At night, the D/C generator drew enough power that the
old Benz was down to only 73 mph top speed.

Ah yes, those were the days. See how much better things are now? :p

It's finally mine.

Picked up my Mk6 (?) JSW TDI yesterday, Blk/Blk TDI w/ DSG and 18" Black Karthoums, iPOD Kit, 35% Llumar ATC tint on sides, 50% on rear.

Wasn't sure I'd like the black Karthoums but they really look great in person. They are fitted with 225/40 Dunlops, not Continentals. I think a 235 or 245/40 will look better when I need to replace them - they look a liitle narrow compared to the wheel. Also the tread wear I've had with Dunlops in the past wasn't too great (of course it could be because they were on my M3).

The next step drop it with either the H&R's or wait for the Bilstein Coil over fitment, replace the front grill with the GTI version (sans GTI Badge), de-badge the back, smoked reflectors, Fog lamp kit, then side skirts, spoiler and rear valance. (Sorry - first step - rob a bank)

Any suggestions as to which spoiler/skirts to use? - factory or aftermarket?
If aftermarket - anyone know of any pieces that are correct for 2010?

Veteran diesel story

Wow Darrel, that's a great story!

My father owned several Shell "gas" stations in the '70s and I worked at one of them as a teenager. Premium was 44 cents/gal back then and diesel was nowhere to be found outside of truckstops. Of course I've heard the stories of the horrible GM diesels back then and even the MB diesels were noisy and smoky. It's a shame so many people still think of diesel engines this way. They don't know what they are missing.

After a lengthy visit to Scotland a year ago and many miles driving a Vauxhall Zafira diesel wagon through the cities and countryside, I was blown away by the high MPG and driveability of the newer diesels. I'm now a diesel convert!

Nice "StealthWagen"!

Micajah, that's a sharp looking package...and I'm not normally a fan of black wheels. I hope you're prepared for the extra car washing and detailing, though.

We're practically neighbors - I'm in Foothill Ranch - so maybe we'll cross paths sometime. Your black beauty would be hard to miss!

I felt the same way about the 225/40 tire size and really wanted to go with 235/40 but with the H&R springs I don't think they would have fit without serious rubbing issues. Maybe it's the reduction of the wheel well gap, but the 225s look fine now.

Keep us posted on future mods. I'd like to add the fog lights too...their absence is glaring...and the sport body kit. But VW hasn't made them available yet as far as I know.

Yes - I knew what i was getting into - I've had and own a black car.
I think the offset of these wheels is bigger thn the VMR V710's so I may not have a probkem - I'll cross that bridge, etc.
When I was at the dealer I asked the parts counter if the sport kit was available - he said 2 weeks and about 1200.00.
I'm going to try and get a quote from Bud the parts guy over on vwvortex.

It finally Arrived!!! Here's my new car!!

Actually, that is my car just behind the M6, still in transport wraps. The M6 belongs to the sales manager, but word is it's nearing the end of the lease and he's going CC!

Even though it finally arrived (and I've even paid for it!) I won't be able to drive my JSW until the hand controls are transferred from my beetle on Monday. Going to be a Looong weekend.

A couple of things I've learned in my purchase:
Fold Flat Passenger Seat I needed this to bring my wheelchair into the car and place it into the back passenger seat. The dealer and I did a lot of research and had things lined up to swap out with a '06 seat. The new JSW has the 'smart' airbags, and the '06 does not, so the connection wouldn't work. Currently looking to see if the Golf 2dr "tilt and lift" seat will fit, but golf only comes in cloth seats. The shape is fairly different, so it's felt the Leatherette covering won't fit very well. I'm just going to wing it and hope I can adapt my loading technique from the 'Bug w/o dinging up the new car too much.
DDL I've been looking for a way to disable the DDL's and have from a reliable source that it can be done solely with VAG mods and no switch change. Once I have mine done, I'll post info in the appropriate discussion.

An added tidbit...

Two tanks of fuel. Average of each tank was the same...35 and change. And that is driving in constantly on hills (no flat land here) and like I stole it. Sure beats 12 in the Jeep.

Got a couple of other people this week with cranked necks looking at the JSW. This appears to be a rare combination here.

LameDuck, you've got my setup! Congrats man.

LOVE my JSW to death.

Thanksgiving is one month of ownership, already over 1500 miles on the Blue Artoo. Can't wait to get my personalized plates on the new car. My Artoo plates have been on 4 cars before this one.

My New 2010 JSW

Picked up last night. Train ride with the kids to Langhorne. Chris picked us up from the station in my new car. Drove off the lot in less than 1 hour. Best car purchase scenario I have ever experienced.
Thanks Chris!!!!

White Gold?

:)

Saw one yesterday while at the dealer (not a JSW, they cannot keep 'em in stock!) and the
White Gold sedan was parked right next to a Reflex Silver, and it is almost impossible for
me to tell those two colors apart unless they are parked right next to each other.

Good looking Wagan. Congratulations!

Good luck.

Your's is Silver

:)

That's a good color. Had it on my 2002 Jetta Wagon and really liked it.

When I'm able to try to get a JSW, that color will be on the list of colors I will take.

What color is your interior?

Black. I have kids.

I like that they replaced the trim piece that goes across the dash and the doors with a black graphite composite looking piece. You can see it above the glove compartment in my last pict. It is not as bright as in that pict. I will take another pict with better lighting.

No TDI's, but an '84 Rabbit diesel
Milleraw;

We picked ours up yesterday too and it looks just like yours only with the stock wheels.

BTW, Timing belt at 120k? Wow, that's a lot longer than I would expect!

My JSW finally arrived and I picked it up on Saturday. Since we already have an 09 TDI sedan in the family I'm already pretty familar with this cream puff of a vehicle. With the 2010 JSW I was really impressed with the new dash, the touch screen radio and the pano roof is really cool. If you're in the process of ordering one I'd recommend that you pay the extra $450 and go for the 17" wheels. The stock 16" wheels look like hockey pucks. Those will be my winter wheels once they are replaced with a proper set of 18"s in the spring.

Right now I can't say if the ipod interface thingy is worth the price. When you consider that it completely obliterates the storage in the armrest I'm not sure I'd recommend it but I'll give it some more time before I really know it I'd do it again. The bluetooth, while offering limited functionality, is really an effective safety feature. The phone rings, you push the button in the steering wheel and you talk - no fumbling around for your phone, etc. Every car should should have this feature. I don't even have 200 miles on it yet and I got 46.7 mpg on a trip down to Jersey this morning.

Anyway, I'm a happy camper and I'm looking forward to getting the windows tinted soon and slapping on that set of 18s and lowering springs in the spring.

Rock on!!!!!

You can put the iPod interface in the glove box. Use the arm rest jack for other audio input. You will appreciate those 16" wheels when you hit a pot hole and I don't think they look like hockey pucks. :p You go over a pot hole with an 18" and you buy a new tire and rim. No thanks. You say, all the pot holes are fixed in Southern NE by the time you change wheels.

Yup - all the pot holes down here were ripped out and shipped up to Maine. The roads are like glass down here. :D:D:D

I think quite a few of those pot holes fell off the truck along I95 between Boston and Saco, ME on their way up. :D
