So I was on the way home tonight on a 40 mile road trip. Temp was 75 and there was no wind at all. Perfect driving conditions. Before I knew it I was at 55mpg in my average consumption screen. By the time I got home I had it at 59.7 mpg! Wanted to keep driving to see where I could get it but it was stuck in the 59 range for a while. Has anyone reached into the 60's yet?

Last summer when I got the car new ,one of my trips to work (55 km) I hit 3.6 l/100k which is 65 mph.
Now i can consistently hit 3.9 -4.1

My best tank was 58.2 mpg actual. Display was reading well over 60. My screen reads about 7-10% high. Which at these levels makes for a large error.
I'd like to try for a 60+ tank.

I did, Fort Myers to Orlando for a conference, cruise control on 62 mph, got lucky, once we hit the highway we did NOT hit the brake once, very light traffic on highway. Fueled up at the gas station by the highway.

190 miles, 60 mpg.
As we drove, the MTE kept increasing from when we started, after 190 miles we had 5 or 10 more miles left on MTE than when we started.

I was hopeful I might get a 700 mile tank this summer as I just missed last fall. I suspect I will get a 60 mpg tank sooner or later.

Awesome tank!!

I've had a few trips where the MFD showed 60+ mpg. I've never been able to keep it up for the entire tank, trips around town always mess up a tank. I'm having my best tank now, I've driven 300 miles and my MTE is at 420. I'm not expecting to maintain it for a 700 mile tank but that is my goal.

2015 Golf TDI owners: My question for those of you who are getting upper 50s and up mpg is, what was your mpg on your first couple tanks? I've only filled up once, and I calculated 39.9 (computer said 44.3). Hopefully the dealer didn't have it completely full, and there was a TON of sitting in the parking lot idling time on that tank. But on my daily driving, the computer isn't registering much higher. I know it will improve, and I'm only a bit over 800 miles on the car, but I'm hoping to do way better.

I'd recommend checking out the Fuelly history of anyone who has a signature (and anyone else on fuelly, for that matter). You can see the tank history pretty easily.

Best I seen was 50-55 mpg on the drive to AZ. I average about 43-46 mpg on the highway on a daily.

Sinister.
My situation is unique. I have a long backroad commute 45-50 and I don't do much around town driving. My all-in mileage is now ~53 mpgs I think the key is that I am almost never in traffic and nearly never have 5 mile trips. Look for Gretchen TDI on Fuelly.

Aha so you're one of the 6 when I filter down the list

I would concentrate more braking in the engine on the first 2-3 tanks then on mileage. I am only at 34mpg calculated on the first two tanks in the heavier Wagon with the 6MT, keeping the RPMs in sweet spot between 2 to 3k rpms, no use of neutral and engage the 6th gear in 120+ km/h (75+ mph).

How much of a discrepancy is there with the on-board computer and the actual fill-up?

The manual states ~13 gallons including a reserve of about 1.2 gallons. Does that mean a 11.9 gallon fill-up was without the reserve?

FWIW, here's mine:

http://www.fuelly.com/car/volkswagen/golf/2015/srs5694/339608

So far my best tank is just 50.9 MPG, but I'm only on tank #10. From what I hear, I'm sure it'll creep higher as the car breaks in (but with dips for winter fuel). It may go higher when I go on a long road trip, too.

As to accuracy of the MFD, it seems to read 5-10% optimistic. It's gotten up to 60 MPG on individual trips for me, and 55-ish for whole tanks.

The car has a 50L or 13.2 Gallon tank total. when your low fuel light comes on they are saying you have 5L or 1.3G left in the tank.

Now with that said I refuelled the other day about 30km after the gauge said I was empty and the range said 0km and I could only get 47.541L(12.56G) in.

Just hit 56.2 mpg actual over 600 miles. Still 2 mpg shy of my personal best.

Love this car!

The light comes up when you have 10L left

Looks like the new TDI has better millage... cool....

"reserve" is acadhmenic if you can't switch tank. it really says how much you can drive after the gauge reads zero.

My 2010 JSW has 14.5 Gal capacity reported (don't know about reserve). I put in 14.5 gallons once... and still drove into the station... not my normal mode (typically I fill up on 13.5 Gal or less). I have never driven on E, but it was close... the RANGE was reading something like 15 miles

Just an FYI. I drove today until range on the MFD said 30 miles left. Refuel quantity on MFD (enabled via VCDS) said I needed 11 gallons.

Pump auto shut off at 11.092 gallons, was able to get 11.445 in total.
