Even if fuelly had a filter for transmissions, you would have to consider that the TDI is up there with the Geo Metro and Civic VX as a hypermiling car. Manual drivers are more likely to have a different driving style than automatic drivers. In manual mode, the only problem with the DSG is it sits at a higher RPM in 6th gear. This can be remedied with larger diameter wheels.
I speculate that if you were to graph the fuel economy vs speed of both transmissions, it would be similar until around 60 mph.
