We had an 00 Jetta we put 192K on with virtually zero problems. With some talk of clutch/trans probs I am slightly concerned. Our 06 has 7K. How many miles does your 5spd have and have you had any probs? Just wanting to get a feel for everyone out there.

Depends on who's driving, doesn't it?

New Beetle, Jetta, one totaled Passat....RIP.
I have an '00 Beetle with 92,000 and the original brakes. Coasting and engine-braking sure saves brakes ;) No reason why a manual tranny car should ever go thru brakes fast......unless you drive hard and there is nothing wrong with that if you enjoy it(but you should expect frequent brake jobs).
My employee took me to lunch the other day and she just had her brakes replaced on a relatively new car. She braked LATE and HARD at every stop.........I wonder why she had to replace her brakes so soon.

The brakes on mine (now at 77,000 km) are nowhere near needing replacement ... Stay off the darn things by anticipating traffic patterns and they last a lot longer!

13,000 miles and the airbag malfunction light is on...haven't had time to take it in for repair through the Christmas season.

78,000 only possible issue is clutch slipping occasionaly, I cant figure it out as it comes and goes (always at 2000-2500 in 4th/5th) never when cold. Failing DMF flywheel?

Around 30000 with no issues. Bought the car with 12000 miles on it the end of August. Not sure if the previous owner had any problems.

Have various rattles on the interior, but I suppose those are not TDI issues :)

This is a good post, I have an A5 with 6k I've put on it so it's at 6k. I have been wondering if I should be bracing myself for tranny issues too. Sounds like not necessarily.

I'm seeing other issues, pretty random. Anyone elses trunk not open when you pop it? Mine stopped doing that some time ago.

I have an 06 5 spd with 37000 miles on it. My only problem right now is a dead ignition switch when temp drops below 32 degrees. That's the first problem I've had. I get it back tomorrow with a new relay that VW has decided to blame. Free towing and a free loaner are nice perks. By the way I get 48 - 50 mpg highway and around 37 city.

18,000 miles. Only car issues were a tight parking brake cable and monster mats that wear thru too quickly.
How do you wear through inch thick rubber?

1. It is not inch thick. 0.25" max
2. It is not rubber.

I am disappointed with MMs for Mk5.
Different monster mats than what I have then for the Mk IV.

20K, no drivetrain problems- and after the 20K service it drives like new.

The driver seatback is broken and I wonder if it's worth taking in for warranty.

06 5spd with 18,000 miles on it. Only problem to date is a sunglass holder that won't stay latched.
