Hope all is well and would appreciate any assistance in reference to a suspected faulty ecu in my 2010 Cjaa jetta .

I have had intermittent starting issues cranks no start with engine fan coming on… with sporadic 1314 no comm with ecu via vcds paired with no mil coming on, flashing error in odometer when it feels like it etc I can write a book about it….
When car starts i would drive to California and back just don’t turn it off 😂

Long story short the only way to start the car successfully is by placing the ecu in the freezer !!
So I am thinking the ecu has a bad solder potentially

Has anyone ever utilized a module rebuild company/ have any insight on how to
Choose one?

My next steps are either dumping the car for cheap or maybe going to dealer to have them throw a new ecu in. Wild thing is I never had the vw diesel gate update performed and will not be able to retain my vw oem tune!😂

There are just too many to list....
Used ECU would be my route... you'll need to deal with the immobilizer of course, but that's not that big of a deal. Sounds like you are on the right track in your diagnosis.

Lots of Mitsubishi-Electronics ECUs did this. My brother had a 1991 B2600i pickup that had its ECU do that. The ECU was located in the right (pass side) kick panel, and we had to take it off its mount, put it in a bag, and set the bag in a little cooler full of ice on the passenger floorboard to get him through summer. :D

Wow one heck of a summer ! I thought about this as well, just keep a cooler with some ice for start up 😂

I have to research this immobilizer topic, I know the chip can be removed and reinstalled in a replacement ecu, idk if I want to take that on, there must be someone out there in the world that excels in electronical work

I’ll have to poke around on some forums and see, my largest fear is sending the unit out and being scammed.

I know this cannot be done via vcds, any tips or tricks with immo?

thanks for the response, I always enjoy your take on the many topics in these forums!

There is someone with some free software on here that can do the immo delete/reset, you also need to get some interface... I don't want to tell you the wrong thing as I have no experience with it, but it sounds like it isn't a big deal.

I don’t know if this is much help but there people on eBay that list a service as removing the delete and immobilizer if that’s any help.

FOLLOW UP WITH ECU

Long story short I found a
Donor and sent my oem Ecu out as well to be analyzed

I could not
Read my oem ecu via vcds and was getting a 1314 code etc etc engine fan pegged on

So the genius who was able to salvage my oem tune and eeprom data etc etc was able to clone to the donor Ecu and also he fixed my oem
Ecu !
There were errors in two sectors / checksums etc in flash memory

the hardware it’s self was fine in my
Oem Ecu !

and btw the error in my instrument cluster is gone and the cel comes upon startup then goes off as it should

also I do not get error on the odometer any longer

great success and if
Anyone wants a
Great recommendation for help with modules let
Me
Know and ill
Forward you his info !
