Thanks to the OP for this info, I'll check this out this afternoon at my local Zone.
But in reference to this post; I don't want to rain on anyones parade, but the flier that is linked here refers to Mobil Delvac 1300 Super 15W-40:
http://www.autozone.com/autozone/ac...al/_/N-26qqZ1z13yf3?itemIdentifier=66539_0_0_
and unless it covers ALL Mobile TDT oils, I'd recommend shopping with caution, because Mobil TDT 5W-40 is what I have used for years, and what the years of discussion on this forum have recommended for the 96 - 03 TDI's:
http://www.autozone.com/autozone/pa...gf5c?itemIdentifier=832128&_requestid=1453017
Which, from the local Peppy Boys :)):D) store in gallons looks like this:
http://www.pepboys.com/product/deta...d/diesel_engine_oil_exhaust_fluid/?quantity=1
I do hope I'm wrong, and that the local Zone will sell me (and you) the Mobil TDT 5W-40 for 12 bucks and change.
I'm also concerned that people might just be buying the wrong engine oil for their early TDI's!
Please let everyone know what the Zone is actually selling you guys, and please correct me if I'm wrong.
Emptied the shelf at my local store, it is in fact the good stuff: Mobile 1 TDT 5W-40 full synthetic gallons for $12.99! :D

Yes I can confirm that it is in fact Mobil 1 TDT Full SYNTHETIC 5W-40 which is perfectly great for ALH and PD MKIV TDI's. Yay!

I went into my local Autozone this morning-walked to the diesel oil section-they had the yellow sale sign hanging next to the regular diesel oil(Delvac and others) on the middle shelf-the TDT was on top shelf, not marked-but when you look at the sale sign,it does say Mobil Turbo Diesel Truck and the price-$29.99. I grabbed the last 2 on shelf. I will be checking another Autozone after work tomorrow;).....many thanks go to the OP who posted this-I have never seen any full synthetic this cheap!

Yeah I just went in and got it figured out. They only had two gallons so I'm gonna travel to some other stores in the area.

Synthetic oil has an indefinite shelf life. I've heard it recommended to give the container a shake in case any of the additives have settled.

Edit: Just checked Mobil's website and they give Mobil 1 a five year shelf-life.
Thanks to all the posters. That's long enough for me.

I would've, but the clerk didn't speak english very well, and there was some sketchy guy outside who kept asking if I would let him buff my headlights. Needless to say, I wanted to get out of there as quick as I could

Just ask the clerk to check inventory at other nearby stores.

Glad this helped you guys, I forgot about Walmart price matching. I will check the AZs in my area and then the Walmarts for more oil.

I used to pay $9x5 for this stuff by the quart/Lubrimoly on IDParts, never bothered to find a deal until recently.

Would it be a bad idea to put this in a 2.2l Ecotec (5w-30)? I have a Sunfire/Cavalier that takes cheap dino right now.

It's for real. I bought 6 gallons. Scans at 29.95 (I believe), but when they hit total it applies the discount and prices the gallons at 12.99 ea.
Unbelievable deal. But it is valid for sure.

After a little research it sounds like, although this oil doesn't meet the VW 505.1 specifications, it is widely regarded as one of the best oils by fellow forum members.

I plan on snagging 4-5 gallons after work, thanks for the heads up!
Oils that meet and are on VW's approved list of 505.01 oils don't meet 505.1 either. (505.1 doesn't exist)

M1 5W-40 TDT is an excellent oil and among the best available. It is an excellent choice for an ALH TDI which requires a 505.00 spec oil. While M1 TDT hasn't been formally tested and approved as a 505.01 oil, UOA data shows that it does well in the PD TDIs, maybe better than some official 505.01 spec oils.

I use M1 5W-40 TDT in my Ford F350 pickup truck. It has the 6.4L V8 PowerStroke diesel engine. The engine holds 15 quarts (14.2L) of oil. It makes oil changes a bit more expensive but still worth it IMHO. A 5W-40 synthetic oil is one of the specified oil choices and there a few dino oil choices specified. The owner's manual cautions that a 5W-40 (synthetic) oil or a 15W-40 (dino) oil must be used when using the truck for heavy hauling or towing. My local Ford dealer uses a 10W-30 gasser dino oil  in these trucks because it is one of the oils specified for it. I feel better using the 5W-40 synthetic year round. So M1 5W-40 TDT is what I use and I do the oil changes myself.

Good luck.

The only bad thing about this sale is I can only save $1/gallon when I buy the Premium Blue for my cummins on sale at Oreilly right now. I would just put TDT in it, but after 400k+ dino miles I'd be afraid of how many leaks it might spring.

Thanks for the heads up, I bought several gallons here as well. The TDI was needing an oil change soon, too.

Oh boy do I have a story about buying this oil...

I had already gone to 1 AZ in town and they only had 1 jug left, but told me another store a few minutes away had 6!

So I go to the other one, and as I walk in I overhear this one employee talking to a co-worker and is just sounding very disgruntled about working there, sounded like he had already been moved from the other store to this one, money issues, etc.

Well there are 3 on the shelf so I take those up to the counter and ask about the other 3 in the back.
He was nice and took me back there and I got the other 3 right out of the box they came from Mobil 1 in.

As I set these 3 up on the counter with my other 3, he makes some kind of joke about me having deep pockets or something about me having lots of money to buy all their synthetic oil up in the store.

I said "Oh no I would not be buying all of this right now if it wasn't on sale for 13 dollars" or very similar...

He looked confused and asked what I meant and I told him I heard on the internet this oil was on sale for $13 a gallon so I was buying all I could find. He said "Oh, no that sale is only for our regular oil, not synthetic" and proceeded to grab their flyer and show me this part which I cropped out of their ad to post here:

Well I slyly continued damn near arguing with the guy a little bit back and forth and at one point I had a feeling he wasn't even going to let me buy the stuff!

He started ringing some up to justify himself and was looking rather relieved as it was showing 29.99 and made a comment like "that scam isn't working here buddy!"

I just smiled and told him to go all the way to checkout and the magic'll happen. And oh my god you should have seen his face when my $179.94 oil bill dropped to a scant $77.94

HE LOST IT!

He started yelling and raging going on and on about that's where all his raises were going and accused me of buying all this oil and then reselling it for more.

I just left saying that's the power of information and the world wide web, take it up with corporate.

Just did this today by me. I bought all they had, 8 gallons. He rang it up and when he total he couldn't believe his eyes......he did it twice, I saved more than it cost. I paid around 118 and saved over 136, his mouth was hanging open as I walked out......priceless.
Major thanks to the OP of this thread.
I'm going back next week when the next shipment comes in and do it again : )

Now if I could just source a filter locally...does VW sell the MANN oil filters that I've been ordering from IDParts?
Check with NAPA....I believe they have Mann or Mahle IIRC, maybe not in stock but can get in a day.ha

OP thanx for the heads up!

Anyone find this deal in So Calif. have called 2 AZ near me and they only have quarts?
My Autozone has a sign in the oil section that says if they don't have the larger jug then they will honor the price for individual quarts (not just as part of this deal, but as an overall policy).

My "local" store ... only 55 miles away ... only had two jugs in stock tonight. I asked if there were more in back & was told "no" & that they wouldn't be getting more until the 24th. The clerk said, "That's two at $29.99, and your total is WHAT THE HECK!" I saved my laughter until I was out the door! :D

My clerk said "wow that's a good deal, can we order you some more"

FYI- buy just two jugs at a time. After 5 purchases of more than 20.00 you get $20! Just sign up for the rewards card.
