If your alternator pulley is failing, then the chattering or chirping noise is the sound of the bearings being ground up into smaller and smaller bits. It might last long enough for you to travel 25 miles, maybe more, but you do NOT want to start out on a long trip.waitin4mine said:Hey guys, after hours of reading it looks like the alternator pulley is the first step to making my intermittent chatter noise go away. I know I could order the part and have it shipped but any idea where I can get it locally? I am doing a "family" thing 4 hours south and would wait a day if I can get this done first. Thanks.

Curious Chris said:Jeff Robertson aka Mr. RocketChip my car please, and Peter Noble of www.tdiparts and JasonTDI tdiguru and many more too numerous to mention.
People in line for RocketChip is a long list, so if you are thinking about doing that get there very very early.
We (Georgia Peach and myself) will get there the evening before. DieselGrandad is a great host.

Hey Deafbug,DeafBug said:Summer is here and as usual, I am available to service your TDI's. Of course, limited service. Heck, I have far more free time now since I got laid off last year... until I complete school and find a job. All I ask is to be considerate of my bad back. Same skills/services I have done in the past. I ain't learning new stuff.
Brad I know you remember me. The timing belt in my car has 96,000 miles on it now and looks good. I am thinking September October time frame for total replacement. chris_idzerda@yahoo.comAutopilot said:Hey Deafbug,
You probably don't remember me, but I used to hang around the TDI club several years ago.
I'm looking to get a timing belt change on my 2000 Jetta. Are you available?
Send me a message at kjcorr@comcast.net
Thanks.

Hey Brad. The BRM is almost identical to the BEW. Different crank lock, sometimes different motor mount.DeafBug said:As a reminder, I only do 96/97 Passats, 98/99 Jettas, All ALH and BEW engines. Nothing else. Sorry for those with BRM engines if you were expecting me to have that skill.
Thanks, Brad
