Yeah I made my DSG fill out of a weed sprayer I didn't realize that regular pipe fittings would thread into the hole. So I ordered the adapter for it connected it to a garden weed sprayer. Heat up the oil a little bit in the Sun and it flows in pretty quick.
Just did the 40k service today (78,000mi) what a to-do that was. I'm glad I got it done before the colder weather rolls in though. Anyway, the hardest part was getting the car on jack stands
Few cool notes.
I only made one auto-part store run for 1 tool which was the 8mm allan key for the dsg plug
Gravity filling isn't as bad as people make it out to be. However, it is super messy.

So you fill from the filter housing? I went with filling from the drain hole. Maybe your VW is just a lot easier to work on or we go about it different ways. I followed AllData and ShopDAC’s video. This reminds me that the oil filter is in a tough location too. It’s like the ring of fire on Subaru, but on the top and zero wiggle room
Sorry I should have specified. I guess i dont know for sure if you have a dip stick tube, but I have filled them from there. takes a lil while because you have to wait for it all to go down (i just clean the garage over the course of an hour lol) . That wasn't on a vw tho so it may be different. Guess i should have specified it wasn't vw.

But on Friday when I was helping build a custom exhaust for a family member's car. I accidentally let it down without moving a jack stand out all the way and bent up the rocker panel a little bit. They don't want me to pay their insurance deductible to get it fixed for a vandalism claim. They want me to pay them $2,500.
helping some people out seems to be rather dangerous lately

Not only that but his ECU won't seem to tune. Tried multiple computers even reflashing the tunzilla. It airs out every time it tries to go into write mode. Malone tuning can't even figure it out right now. Waiting on a response from the manufacturer

Ugh online retailers are idiots. Oh it won't fit a Jetta. I know. It's not a Jetta. It's a Jetta badged golf. A5 chassis. IRS. Gave Canadian vin for same vehicle. Yes, it fits that.

ITS THE SAME VEHICLE AND CHASSIS!

My rear toe couldn't be adjusted due to frozen cam bolt in the control arm. They make a replacement mid arm that's adjustable to find tune toe. (Also make an adjustable camber arm for the rear) but it won't fit a 12 Jetta, because that's not irs. But it will fit a golf mk6 GTI and mk5 golf.
It's maddening.

so, when I just dumped one piston my car last time, like 8k miles and a couple months ago?
missus steaks that was, indeedidily doo

so, #4 pooped its rings out this time, from the deep 'double ring ridge' in those two cylinders I'm pretty sure the event that broke the top compression rings was several years back, hauling a big'ol sail of foamboard insulation on the roof with the stock turbo, #1 and #4 share the same problem of bad intake manifold design

so, this time it is getting a set of four (thanks for the deal on them, Nick), cut the bowls for lower compression and sprayed some stinky ceramic paint on the tops, honed the cylinders out bigger for some more clearance and tolerance for abuse, most of the way back together, debating on if I should port the head while it is off, leaning toward it being a good idea

so, why do I start every point with so? Dunno but it annoys me now

How much bigger with the honing?

Also reason for dropping compression? I know you've explained your reasoning in the past somewhere else, but I don't remember...

Would your gains from porting be noticable? Or what are you hoping to obtain from it? Without different cam, valves, or other supporting mods I doubt your efforts would be worthwile other then for fun.

.004" piston/wall

speeeeed
in reality if I bothered to set up my injection timing maps properly with a dyno and all that the drop in compression wouldn't be needed, but I'm incredibly lazy with remapping my junk so the extra wiggle room is a boon for durability

porting; the bowls on these heads always kinda suck, and the exhaust ports are pretty easy to open up a bit where they make the turn
thinking on a 'big single' rather than the typical compounds I've done so many times, got a superduty TP38 that is sitting around lonely and dejected

Thats a big turbo. 66/88mm is very big for a 1.9. Why not compound it? Otherwise you'll be really laggy low end, and once you get it up there would it even spool semi effectively? Would be interesting to see your boost numbers though with it churning the blades on that thing.

these little guys are perfectly driveable n/a they just lose steam at 2500 or so because the cam is very much a dog
figure it'll wake up around 3-3500

Ya narfblast ran N/A until he decided to put more money into his golf. Probably wake up then, but won't that put you close to the end of your torque range? Seems you'd need some more fuel and a lot more air flow to get benefits out of it. Maybe? Idk...you be our ginea pig lol.

Fun fact. I blocked of my radiator last week and in yesterday's weather the car didn't overheat. I was a bit worried, but everything seemed fine. I did drive pretty nicely though to be cautious. Guess the tdi's stay pretty cool
Kind of backwards to block your radiator then turn the AC on, but whatever....

nah, I ran mine n/a for a few months too
and the golf doesn't really do anything below 1800 or so, all the added plumbing is just restriction

dunno, we'll see what it does eventually I guess
I'll start taking pics, make a thread on the car eventually once more progress has progressed

Thought I caught my turn signal not working the other day, but couldn't tell if i thought i heard it skip a blink or if my mind blanked out a second (getting old😉). Well it's doing it a lot now so I gave the hazzard switch the "vw treatment" aka I smashed the button and everything works great now so I guess I temporarily fixed it till it needs another beating. I don't get why these cars like getting hit but they do. My last bug had a radio issue where you had to punch the thing hard to get the tape player to work (used it for playing music on my phone) did that for a few months before swapping in another radio. Always made my brother laugh how we'd jump in the car, head down the road, and start hitting the radio till it worked😂

I'm officially listing the Bug for sale. It is taking up space, doesn't get driven enough and needs to go to a good home so I can do some garage upgrades.

The official term for that procedure is "Percussive Reset"!

Ya that term works, better too.
Sounds like hitting someone over the head with a shovel😄.
Either way it didn't last because its now worse after another drives worth of turns and my blinkers are almost non exsistant. Looks like I'll have to get a hazzard switch from upull.

I wanna say I had a multifunction switch get scuzzy once, and a blast of brakeclean in there fixed it
see if manhandling the turn signal stalk around will affect the blinker's operation

Thanks! Ya I had tried moving it all around. Brights, no brights, left, right, wiggle everywhere, and its all the same. The clicking noise stops too. I'll try shooting the hazzard with cleaner.

update: Lost the hazzard and turn signals this morning. Guess its time for a replacement and/or dissection of the switch.

Does anyone know if the Frostheater company is still in business? Or did it move? When I do a google search it says permanently closed.
Or does anyone have one they would like to sell?

It's working for me. Placed something in my cart just to double check. Curious as to what you were seeing I was about to be really sad.

Haha all good GlowBug

This is a good reminder because I still need to install my FrostHeater. It just seems like a PITA for some of the hoses and I need to buy some backup G13 coolant from IDParts or something

Its not that bad; probably takes about 40min or so. Get the frost heater in the general area then disconnect and reconnect with that hose quick. Then get it all in position and attached.
Check around with some auto stores on the phone. Oriellys may carry G13. I know they carry G12.

Strange. Second time in a rowy battery's been too low after 8 hrs. Bought this AGM less than a year ago.
