New member here wanted to introduce myself and thank everyone for contributing to this forum and resource. I just bought my first TDI, though I've been around them my whole life. I know just enough to understand the basics of a gas engine, diesel engines are a mystery to me thus far. Put a turboprop in front of me and I'm a bit more knowledgeable. Do the members here ever get together? I'd certainly love to start gleaning a little more knowledge from you all.

i am about to clean my intake manifold and Delete my Egr ,
Do i need a ecu tune after that? and where should i go ?
i also need a key programmed to my ecu . its cutted but not programmed , can the guy tune my car do that too ?

Should i install a engine coolant heater after the egr delete since we are in MN ?
I cant find any frost heater fit BEW with auto transmission, any recommandation ?

I also have a set of alloy wheels on a Golf with Conti Pro contacts 225/45 R17s. About 7/32 left on tread (1/2 to 3/4 of original tread left). If you want to swap wheels or just tires and give me your old worn out ones, plus throw me a few bucks, let me know. I am getting rid of the golf in the buyback later this year I hope.

Need local guru information

It has been awhile since I have posted but am in need of a guru to help with seal replacement for injector pump on my 2001 Jetta TDI. It could also be the pump itself. Any help is appreciated.

I need to do some searching, but does anyone here happen to know anything about the BMW 3.0 I6 diesels from 2009-2013? I'm possibly looking to get into an X5, prices are surprisingly reasonable on them (pretty close to Chevy Tahoe/Ford Flex/Explorer prices of similar age and mileage).

The 3.0 is a really nice engine. Lots of aftermarket performance stuff these days. The x5 is full of small issues according to a guy I know who has one but overall really nice. Lots of junk under the hood. I rode in a stage 3 x5, pulls nice.sounds amazing.

Yeah I'm just digging into emissions deletes. I know the ECU has to be pulled for flashing. Is that something you can tune? I'd only be interested in getting rid of all the EGR/DPF/DEF emissions crap (that is going to give trouble down the road and cost me an arm and a leg) and maybe only a slight power bump.

If you tune all that out, I'm guessing a delete exhaust kit will be needed?

Awesome, would be nice to have someone local take care of it. I'm still on the fence if I'm going to go that direction for a vehicle, but its good to know what my options are. I will be in touch if/when it happens!

I picked up a 335d a month ago and I LOVE it, sadly it destroyed the experience of driving my Jetta. The emissions systems are a real problem, If you are not planning on deleting I would probably say not worth it. I got my first check engine light 2 weeks in, bad temp sensor in SCR tank, 3k+ to fix because you have to replace the whole tank. I knew what I was getting into so not that big a deal because I'm deleting it. Cbu, emissions, and bad diesel will cost you but if u mod you eliminate most of the risk. All you need is a good tune, have the intake walnut blasted to clean the carbon, and a turbo back exhaust. Power is great stock but after a tune you'll get a nice bump.

Yeah, I'd definitely delete the emissions. Thank goodness MN doesn't have E-testing, hopefully it stays that way. The walnut blasting, is that a BMW dealer only service? Any HPFP-type failures as long as you have good fuel? Is there a go-to BMW type forum that knows much about the diesels? I know it won't compare to TDI Club, but I'd like to know what you've found to be the best resource. Do you plan to DIY repairs/maintenance as much as possible?

Careful around the BMW dealers - I don't think they walnut blast, I hear they yank the head and dip them - I know of at least one 335D that just doesn't run right after that. Some guys walnut blast them themselves.

I managed to trade my dirt bike for a mk4 Golf that was in ok condition mechanically. I've decided to completely rebuild the whole thing since why not. Currently engine and tranny are out and the block is at the machine shop getting bored, honed, decked and hot tanked. But just wanted to say hi! I live in the st. cloud area. I look forward to sharing more on this awesome task I'm undertaking.

Hi Greengeeker, I was reading through the porting porn thread and had noticed you offered up a flowbench. Well I just so happen to be porting my ALH cylinder head and would be willing to offer it up for science and gained knowledge of the group. So far I've got the exhaust ports done and am doing some research on the intake ports still before letting the chips fly on them.

I use a flowbench on occasion through work and understand the methodology behind flowing heads.

I know at least 3 people in Mpls area more or less have the front wheel bearing replacement tool where you do not need to pull off the steering knuckle. Of course my brain is mush and cannot remember the names. Please PM me as I need to do both of mine and I plan to do it during the Christmas break at work.

drove home last night - everything was good... plugged in the car and went out this morning - turned it on - temp went right up to 190 - started cranking, cranking, cranking... no start - I can smell diesel fuel - so more likely a pressure issue? can't see anything under the hood out of the ordinary. ideas?

Your injection pump seals are probably leaking or you have a fuel leak somewhere else

I would look closely at the fuel filter. It's likely that air is being sucked into the fuel filter via the thermostatic-T.

i've heard of people having the coolant temp sensor getting coolant heat before the engine, and the ecu reduces the injected quantity to that of a warm engine (which in the maps is significantly less).

Try it again cold.
