advice about swapping out seats in Golf 04 4 door

I am emailing with a vendor in Philadelphia who has heated leather seats and accessories to sell. I would love to get the heated seats but he said these are out of a Jetta so the back insert would need to be swapped out. Ok no way I have ever done any of this before so I am looking for input on how big a PITA trying to do this will be. I love the idea of the heated seats but mine are currently just cloth so no switches in the dash or wiring for the heaters. I could live with just leather if that is all I can accomplish but I am looking to wiser brains than mine to find out if this is just more hassle than it is worth.
Are Jetta seats interchangable with the Golf?
Is it a big deal to add the wiring and switches for the heaters in the seats?
Is there any additional power draw or fuse information I need to be aware of?
thanks,
Mary

Do you have a 2-door or 4-door Golf? If a 4-door, then the seats will swap. If a 2-door, then you don't want them.

the two door seats tilt to get into the back seat where the fourdoor/jetta seats don't

go to a junkyard and harvest some heater elements and switches (the switches are 120 bucks new!)
you can practice getting the seats apart without ruining them, and most junkyards don't care about the seats. They're ruined on the first rain.

Vcds

FWIW, I recently purchased VCDS and would be willing to use it to help reset codes or troubleshoot anyone's car if they are in my local areas of operation. I primarily am around Grand Rapids, MN and Little Falls. The VCDS version I have would work on any audi/vw that has OBD II. Feel free to message me if you are in need of VCDS.

Anyone got a recommendation on a turbo balancing shop? Just a generic TD04HL-15t that got some FOD on the turbine and a fresh 19t compressor wheel.

IIRC JFettig, you used to work with one?

midwest turbo connection is your only option now for local. MAP sold their VSR.
I don't think midwest turbo connection vsr balances anything, they either buy a complete center section or they balance just the wheels which only goes so far.

Did some calling and it turns out http://www.dieselcomponentsinc.com/ bought MAP's VSR

Talked to their guy on the phone and he's working toward getting it running, says it's all set up, just needs some experience running it before he'll trust his work on customer jobs.

And yeah, I don't like the idea of taking it back apart to reassemble after balancing. I do it on rebuilds but consider it kinda hack.

Good to hear! I might have to give them a call at some point. I balanced my 20G on that VSR, but can't say I have enough experience to teach anybody anything :)

On the phone he seemed like a nice enough guy, probably be glad to talk to someone who has at least used it before.

20G? That's td05 or 6 territory. Subaru?

TD06, I used a TD06SL2 turbine - flows more than the stock TD06 turbine. I threw a DSM housing on the exhaust side and a big 3" inlet housing on the compressor side. These are kind of neat, the center section is the same across a wide range of turbos.

Yeah, they certainly used them in a lot of stuff, just that the GMs, volvos and saabs that had them before they went to the td04 are well out of the junkyards by now, and the subarus and mitsus that are getting them again now probably won't be seen at a yard with the turbo still in them for a good 15 years.

I'm very much one of the junkyard mentality.:p

I have 15 quarts of brand new untouched Total Quartz Ineo MC3 motor oil I'd like to get rid of. $50 for all. Local pickup.

From IDParts: Total Quartz Ineo MC3 meets VW's most recent 505.01 standard, required for all Pumpe Deuse 1.9L and 2.0L TDI engines sold in the USA. It also meets VW 502 and 505 standards, BMW Longlife 04 standard and M-B 229.31 and 229.51 standards. Also approved for the Chevrolet Cruze diesel that requires dexos2. It is a ACEA A3/B4 category oil

New to Minneapolis, need a local TDI tech.

Hello Minnesota! My wife and I are moving to Minneapolis on 1/1 with our English Mastiff and our 2012 Golf TDI. I refuse to go to the stealer for repairs. Could anyone refer me to either a local garage mechanic who specializes in TDIs or a local shop that knows TDIs and does great work at a reasonable price?
I do my own regular maintenance but prefer to work with a reliable TDI tech for most projects. I prefer working with someone out of their garage but would be happy with a local TDI shop that doesn't make me feel like i'm getting a prostate exam when I write the check. Thanks!
Cheers!

Welcome!

You have a few good options.

Nick (Greengeeker) up in Cambridge is one of the best around. Eric Merker(merkerguitars) at Midwest Motorworks in Hudson Wi is also one of the best around. Nur Technik in Burnsville is a good shop, they do lots of CR's. I'm in Blaine sharing space with SM Speed and they are bringing in a good VW tech soon.

Hi There JFettig! Thanks for the quick response and warm welcome. We are moving from Chicago and just bought the Golf as we did not own a car in the city. It has 58k on it.

I really appreciate the referenced techs above. The closest TDI shop I had found was in Eastern Wisconsin so this is great!

The only things I'm considering currently is a Frostheater install and at some point a DPF/EGR delete with a Malone stage 2 Tune. I want to avoid Intercooler freeze and a turbo failure.

I will be in Minneapolis on January 7th and I willhave a heated garage. The Frostheater is easy to install but a third hand makes it really easy. I have ramps, jack etc.

Text 3202671807 or call but text seems to work best when I am work

Nick aka Greengeeker is awesome. He has done a lot of work on my car.

Does anyone have the CV boot strap tool I can borrow or where I may buy one locally? I need to replace my Drivers side CV boot before I need to replace the CV joint.

Thanks,

Tony

Tony,
I have a set of nippers that I use but I'm in Chaska. Probably closer to swing by Harbor Freight and pick up a set of end nippers.

less than $6.00 after a 20% discount.
Either dull the edges or don't squeeze too tight. They will cut through a band.
Ask me how I know....

I ended up buying a set from Napa, 35 bucks :-(
But it's all done and saved $500 from what the dealer wanted to do it. I didn't removed the brakes, or A-Arm.

In fact, the best oil for your PD TDI can be found locally. Some like Shell Rosella T 5w40, others like Mobil 1 TDT 5w40. But you might check Mills Fleet Farm and see if they still have Mobil Delvac 1 5w40 for $23.99/gallon.

These oils meet the API CJ-4 spec and not the VAG spec. But thousands of TDI owners have used them for many millions of miles with good results.
