Not exactly. We found more of what is not causing the problem. Specifically the ECU is ok. We are left with something in the 4 wires between the ECU & the MAP sensor. Merker will be working on that next week.
Got it all figured out. Unplugged smart actuator on the turbo and it now reads 976ish mbar. Took it for a spin and makes awesome boost. In the future I would put a gtb turbo on it and a malone tune. Your car has so much untapped potential. :)

Confused why the "smart" actuator would stop working like that. Super glad you got it running. A gtb would be the next step but I hardly use what I have now. It does make about 200hp & over 300 ft/lb of torque.

Here's what I "think" is happening. Something is screwy in the actuator, like the sensor in the actuator is think its in making boost mode. But the way it tells the ecu that is too give it a high map sensor reading. If I have time I'll just plug in a good used actuator and see if it does the same thing. Its perfectly fine to drive with the actuator unplugged, just throws a CEL.

If the reading if normal with a different actuator you can get it replaced.

Too bad there isn't a measuring block to monitor what the actuator thinks the vane position is. Plus I haven't found a self study guide that confirms my theory.

Thanks for your efforts! I'm looking for a ride to Hudson now. I'll pick it up tomorrow if I'm successful.

It sure is great to have my car back with all it's boost! Even though the smart actuatore has been dumbed down the car goes like a rocket.

FYI my fellow Minnesotans-

Just fueled up at Kwik Trip this morning, and they now have stickers on the pump stating that the diesel may contain between 5-20% bio-diesel. These weren't there 2 weeks ago when I filled up. I'm going to stop at SA sometime soon and see if they've added the same stickers.

I will also contact the dealer and VWoA to find out if my warranty is going to be invalidated now if it's mandated that there is more than B5 in our diesel...

B10 during the summer months is mandated by state law.

Yeah starting July 1, b 10 will be all we can legally get in Mn. Next year it's scheduled to be b20.

The B10 mandate was postponed for several years, until this year.

The B20 mandate will be postponed indefinitely, until it is abandoned, IMO.

I agree that B20 probably will be delayed for a long time or abandoned, but they haven't announced a delay yet, and the bill to delay it to 2018 was killed in committee at the MN house this year, and the bill to abandon it was killed in the Senate by the Soybean Growers Assoc lobbying against it.

Need advice.....
Looking for advice on a good mechanic/shop/dealership to take this car to.
Minneapolis area or any other suggestions.
I have 2010 Jetta TDI with issue I can't solve myself. Wrote about this couple months ago. Car goes into limp mode every 40-50 miles due to following codes:

I tried doing forced/manual regeneration, it worked, but does not solve issue.
Looked/cleaned at EGR filter, not plugged up.
I am thinking that there might be issue with car software, not doing its work correctly as far as regeneration goes.
I am out of ideas on how to get this fixed and need help. Car has under 20k miles, no warranty left, and I am scared of just dropping it at dealership as they can rack up cost and parts without good understanding of the problem. Any input will be welcomed.

Thanks...

In the past, I have had VERY good results at Further Performance on Humboldt in Minneapolis. The guys work on VW and Audi and their shop time is less than the stealership. I live in Faribault and drive up when I have a problem I am not willing to perform.

There are lots of VW and Audi shops that do good work. And there are guys like Jon and Nick who know TDIs but have full-time jobs which don't involve TDIs.

But when you're looking for a shop that can troubleshoot a tough problem, Eric Merker at Midwest Motorworks in Hudson is the best TDI mechanic that I know of in Minnesota (western Wisconsin, actually). If he can't find the solution himself, then he can tap into the knowledge base of his friends. I suspect, however, that your problem has popped up before and a solution was found.

Need body work recommendation in Minneapolis. I have a '04 JSW that was rear ended on 35 many years ago. The car only has 135m miles on it and I expect it to go on running forever. My problem now is rust and paint problems from the original repair plus other dings and damage. Any recommendations for quality body repair work would be appreciated. Sorry if this is the wrong way to post this question, i'm a newbie.

John, I don't know how far you are willing to travel. I have had work done by Lake Marion collision near downtown Lakeville. They do a lot of street rods, 50s and 60s classic cars. Their work is very good and on touch up jobs, they offer lifetime color match. Someone chipped my door on our 2013 JSW and they repainted the entire door. It turned out perfect. I highly recommend them. They are on Hwy 50 east of I-35 on Dodd Blvd. They also repaired my 02 Jetta TDI last winter after hitting a coyote at 75 MPH. It caused $3000 in damage and now looks new.

John, when my Wagon was rear-ended, I went to Raymond Auto Body, on Pierce Butler Route in St. Paul (not far from the Fairgrounds). Excellent, careful work. Friendly, open staff. I'd go back there again next time I need body work.

What's up with the long dry spell for posts to this thread?

I now have (well, my wife has) a 2015 Golf SE TDI blue silk with beige interior.

Anyone else in the area buy a new golf/GTI yet?

Thanks Alex! Found out the wife had a hard time getting a fuel nozzle into the car . . . what a joy . . . I seem to remember this "enhanced" filler neck being discussed somewhere on the boards, now I get to see it firsthand when she gets back to MN from NJ with the car . . .

Hi guys I started a thread on this but want to get this out to everyone

my wife and I traveled to the Duluth area for a 4 day vacation to check out the sights in town and up the north shore.

I was up for the 40 k service so got it done at VW of Duluth and cost over $625 being its the dsg trans.

Got the car back and we went back to the hotel for the day about 4 miles away.
Next day put about 10 miles total on it coming back to the hotel just cresting the huge hill and decent to the hotel and lake. the oil light and buzzer starts going off. I had cars all around and the hill was like the ones in san fransisco, I didn't want to shut the car down and have no PS or PB'S . I then coasted into the hotel parking ramp and shut the engine down at the first safest spot.

I popped the hood and the compartment was covered in oil and seen it centralized around the oil filter cover, I noticed it wasn't seated all the was and the o-ring/gasket was pinched.

I called the dealer and they got me a loaner car in about 1.5 hrs and towed the car back in about 2-2.5 hrs . this was frustrating going back and forth and they wanted me to get te car towed and they would reimburse me. I didn't agree so they finally took care of it.

After it was sitting over 30 mins I checked the oil and found NOT ONE drop of oil on the stick.

They are turning rude and me telling me its all good and our techs said it will be fine. I don't feel comfortable with the car anymore knowing theis happened, this was suppose to be my 200k car and now I cant ever feel to trust it.

I ended up getting vw of America involved and they opened a case and the regional account manager will be on the case. after checking the car over they stilldidnt clean the engine well there was oil on the back of the radiator as well.

I cant believe they have no remorse that they screwed a simple service done and they wont offer a extended warrenty refund or nothing, The fact of inconveince this ruined our vacation as well.

greengeeker - Thanks for the info.

redlabel6 - That seems likely, though there's what I want to do and then there's what my bank account says I should do . . . were you wondering if it'd be available, or just friendly curiosity . . . ?

losha - I'd be interested in the excuse to drive down and see your shop, but bad timing on both dates for me.

boost4life - That sucks & good luck getting things set right . . . people wonder why I avoid letting anyone else work on my cars . . . I hope you managed to get pictures . . . I'd like to think a regional person would quickly decide to make this go away in a fashion that provides positive PR, though I know nothing about how it actually works in the real world . . .
