Finally got my Beetle back on the road. The KP-39 turbo is in, I had to make an egr blockoff plate. Also a new oil pan. It's like a totally different car, the 0-60 time went from "maybe" or "eventually" to measurable in seconds. Now if only we didn't have all this blasted snow this AM. In the near future I'll need to get the EGR tuned out so I don't have that annoying MIL.

Hi all. Updating my 2002 Jetta and need some new seats. Would prefer to put in some "square bolster" GLI sport seats, either cloth or leather. Grey or black. Anybody know where I might find something within reasonable driving distance?

As it turns out, the issue that I have with my Golf is that the injection pump has leaky seals. I went to change them per the directions from Diesel Geeks and Youtube, and ran into a bit of an issues. When I went to manually advance the engine, the timing belt slipped an unknown number of teeth because the belt had too much slack in it (on the top, it has free play of about 3/4"). Not good. But... I'm trying to keep an optimistic. At least this didn't happen under power and produce a catastrophic failure.
While I'm willing to take on a couple of seals in a readily accessible pump, I don't have the tools or patience at this time in my life to tackle the timing belt. So it will be sitting a while. On the plus side, I did get the two top seals replaced. After I primed the injector pump, I noticed that I need to get the solenoid seal done as well.

Live and learn I guess.

Merk comes highly recommended, but is a bit away from me, so I'll be searching for a closer shop to fix this whole mess.

Clearly Einsteins theory of relativity works in the "good" and "bad" category too :)

Got the quote back for my front fenders. 2400. Let's see if VW will cover it. What is the latest wisdom on A4 Belly Pans?

Should be close but I bet your 2002 was built in late 2001. I just had a coworker get denied for a 2001my citing he was outside of the 12year coverage. :(

Belly pan or skid plate? Of the two that Jon mentioned I like the uprights of the panzer plate more. Pick your poison as I doubt you'll be disappointed with either. idparts has a belly pan kit that has a thin aluminum pan (think panzer plate but 1/5 the thickness) that attaches just as your oem plastic belly pan does.

I bought this one to replace my OEM plastic. Probably not nearly as strong but fitment was perfect.

OEM skid plate.

After seeing how much damage a coyote can do to a stock plastic skid plate, I chose the Panzer plate. The coyote peeled the plate and side skirts back. My neighbor hit an extension ladder in the dark one morning in his Cobalt and tore off his oil pan and ripped his tranny pan. At least the Panzer will give a little peace of mind. :)

Thanks Gang, if Eich will cover the cost of a replacement plate I will go Panzer, if I'm covering it, I'll go the cheaper route.

My personal preference is Evolution skid plates, I like their design better and mounting support brackets.

I went with the Panzer with metal side shields. Now I smile when I see the big ice chucks coming.

As if on schedule, my front sway bar bushings started clanking at 120k miles. Time for a front sway bar delete.

Well VW went for the fenders, & Eich and I are splitting the skid plate. So I got that going for me which is nice...

Anyone with a Mk6 TDI have a dieselgeek Sigma 6 SS shifter in there car around the Twin Cities or St. Cloud area that I could "feel"...:)

Not sure if I would want to go that route or go with a stock S3/R short shifter and I would prefer to not buy something that I may not like.

Thanks in advance!

A fuel story, I sometimes go on a search for premium fuel. The pickings are usually slim. Flint Hills makes a Gold Diesel Plus with a 47 - 50 cetane but retail offering are slim. They put me in contact with Yocum Oil that operates a few Holiday stores. Very friendly people and provided lots of interesting information about the additives they use, etc. Even offer B20 during the summer at 5 of their locations https://www.yocumoil.com/yocums_holiday_stationstores_locations.aspx

Thought I would share.

So, in your opinion are you saying Yocum Diesel at those stores is "premium?" On a side note, Yocum is the distributor that had the best methanol price per drum last summer when I was looking into biodiesel for my truck.

Not necessarily. But as many of us know, there is lots of bad fuel out there. I was specifically looking to see if they sell the Gold Plus retail anywhere. Here is their response. Lucky for me, one of the 5 locations is 3.3 miles from my house. I know I will go there from now on. Everyone else can make their own choices. :)
"We do not sell Gold Plus exclusively at any of our locations. Our fuel in the winter is generally seeing a typical 45-47 cetane number. The Gold Plus is definitely a few numbers higher – a great product. In the summer, we sell #2 diesel with 20% biodiesel, which inherently has higher cetane. This B20 blend will typically result in cetane ratings above 45, sometimes in the 50 range. Again, it is all dependent on the cetane of the base stock of fuel and biodiesel. In the summer, we use ECOCLEAN, which is the top detergent-based diesel additive available, built by Innospec."

Also, when I moved to the US from Canada, I started having issues after awhile. Ended up that much of the fuel is subpar compared to what I was using in Canada. I have found the odd place that sold premium fuel. One as a independent place near hamline and selby somewhere in St. Paul. Now it is a Holiday. Another was a gas station that also sold uHauls in Minnetonka. I have found it really hard to find good fuel in the US. Kwik Trip mostly sells the Koch Gold. So does Fleet Farm. Decent fuel. http://www.performancefuels.com/product/

I'll have to give that Yocum in Eagan a shot, I drive Cedar everyday, and while it's not as close as the Holiday right off Cedar and Cliff, it's not far either. My last fill was a Kwik Trip (at Cty 11 and 35E), and it took almost half an hour the pump was so slow. They were probably low.

The Holiday you speak of I believe is the old Tracy OneStop on Marshall and Hamline. My inlaws live a few blocks from there. I wouldn't have thought of them as a good source for diesel as they don't seem to have much truck traffic, but it's good to know they are good. I'm really leary of bad fuel, as I've been bitten a couple of times this winter.

The old Tracy One stop was the good one. They had the Gold Plus before they became a Holiday. I do not know about now. You could even get racing fuel there. :)
