Who has one and where did you get it?

I need to tow something and I'm looking for a good place to get one in the GTA. Any recomendations on what brand to get or avoid?

Thanks

Our wagon has a Hidden Hitch which appears to fit well and be sturdily mounted. It's very unobtrusive when the receiver is removed.

We bought the car with the hitch already installed.

If wagon and sedan hitches are the same, which I believe they are, my buddy got one from car-parts.com for 50$
I was told they arnt, and thinking about the way the wagon has the storage area around the spare tire it would make sense. The sedan comes up beside the spare tire storage area on the drivers side on the sedan, this is not possible on the wagon from what Ive seen

It bolts to the tow eye on the passenger side, and you drill through the trunk floor and the side of the spare wheel well on the drivers side. When he was gonna sell his sedan, I got the hitch from him, and it cleared the spare tire tub, but I couldn't get the tow eye holes to line up. I blame that partially on lack of patience from working with a fracture rib on my right side :)

I am wanting one for our wagon but I need a class three to pull our pop up. I have spoken to an RV dealer in Kitchener. They have been doing hitches for many years on cars most people wouldn't think of towing with. They even let you test drive a car and trailer combo similar to yours so you have an idea how they will tow.

In my searching, I have been unable to find anything higher than a class I hitch??? I would like at least a class II. I will be towing a 5x8 enclosed with a total weight of about 1700 lbs. I know class I's are supposed to be rated for up to 2000 lbs, but I would rather have a larger safety buffer.

I would be worried that the floor pan where it bolts up on the drivers side wouldn't handle any thing much more than class I :/

I can't remember where I saw it but there was one that mounted in the frame so that you removed the rear bumper installed the hitch then reinstalled the bumper and the plastic cover. No drilling into the bottom of the car at all. The ball is shaped like a J so the receiver actually points down and it was a class 2 if I recall.

I ended up going with the Curt hitch but I used 7-16 and 1-2in bolts instead of the3-8in supplied.
I also drilled a 3rd bolt hole on the passeger side of hitch and used 1-4in by 2in plate inside trunk instead of the flimsy fender washers supplied.
I often tow loads over 2000lbs and the hitch and the cars body shows no sign of fatigue after 5-6 years.

Build one, total cost of mine was under $100 and it bolts to the same holes as the Euro swan neck style. The golf lent itself well for this due to the licence plate location but a simple redesign will allow it to drop out below the jetta bumper

Check this pick, the standard "hidden hitch" brand mounted to floor pan and my home made one set to come out licence plate area

I have towed a tent trailer over 5000km with this set up that weighed 1800lbs, I tow a double motorcycle trailer, and have towed a 3500lb tent trailer a short distance(100km)

I'd love to do a custom hitch like that, but I don't have the time. I need something as quick to install as possible. I'm even considering letting someone else install it . No one but me has wrenched on this car in the last 8 years of ownership! Uhaul can install one for $219. I am very tempted. Anyone have experience with a Uhaul hitch?

from what i can tell ALL hitches are the same now, hidden hitch, reese, drawtite. All their websites are the same and most numbers cross reference to each other.

That said, pick what's easiest to get your hands on. no matter the brand, they all will require drilling. I regret ever putting one on my car, but in desperation it was unavoidable.

If you have a local fabricator, they should be able to weld one up for you in a few hours. I would avoid uhaul and over the counter hitches and get one custom made that properly mounts to the euro hitch mount points.

We have a local place here in Los Angeles, Eckharts, that makes custom hitches. I highly suggest you look up what's available in your area before you have someone drill through your car :(

EDIT: And the price seems very reasonable. They can fabricate something for $200-$300 painted and installed.

After calling around lots of places, no one could get me one before next week (4-6 business days). I ended up ordering from Hitch Depot USA and they claim it will ship today and be here in 1-3 days, so should get it no later than Friday.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.

I live near an Eckharts, what does the rack option look like?
