Driving in the first bit of rain in the new mk7. The drivers side wiper jerks/skips about 3-7 times on the down swipe. Passenger side jerks but not as bad. It's terribly annoying. Not to be expected on a new 30k car!

I did use rain x but I've never had a issue with any other car.

I had that happen for a bit after treating with Rain X. It went away after a while. Try washing the windshield again to see if that helps.

Rain-X

This happened on my Jetta after applying Rain-X. It was really bad...so I know what you mean by annoying. I haven't put Rain-X on since and it has not reoccurred.

That had never happened before on my previous VW's.

It goes away after about 1500 km

Cleaning the wipers helps some as well, some interior cleaner or something will get a ton of black gunk off the wipers. I also take a clay bar to my windshield about once a year and it pulls off quite a bit of junk, helps the wipers out as well.

I've read a lot of complaints about the wipers, I plan on getting some bosch aero blades.

Windshield washer sensor problems w/ Rain-X

Many reports of the newer revised-formula Rain-X causing problems with windshield washer reservoir level sensors. Search any model area here. I believe VW has issued a service circular about it.

Not 100% sure, but I think it may be due to wax residue washing up from the hood
Fixing the problem is hit or miss although new blades seem to do the trick, so I would play the war;)ranty card

He said it was from the Rain-X. I have experienced the same thing, which is why I no longer use Rain-X.

I've had problems with skipping wipers on several vehicles with Rain-X - Volkswagens and Mercedes.

I used to work for an oem supplier of wiper systems. One common trick was to use Bon-ami (not comet!) cleanser to get any waxes, detergents and general grime off of windshields before conducting wipe quality evaluations during product qualification testing. It's motto "hasn't scratched yet" seems to apply to automotive glass as well. Disclaimer: test a small patch before using on the entire window...

Let me get this straight. When one puts sticky stuff all over the windscreen things stick to it. Got it

I picked up my new Golf immediately prior to a few days of constant rain. Initially, my wipers jerked, like you mentioned, front and rear. However, after a bit they stopped and operate smoothly now.

A bit of advice you take it for what it's worth.
Apply some silicone spray to the blades themselves, helps keep them subtle and prevents drying out, I do it twice a year when I wax the car.
