Well, the A/C quit working right yesterday. (2015 Golf TDI, 800 miles) Blew hot air for several miles until I got a half mile from the dealership...........then it began to blow cold air.

Of course, the dealer couldn't do anything until the A/C malfunctioned again.

Grrrrrrr.

Man that is frustrating...maybe try taking it somewhere else?

I was having the same problem with the AC running but not cooling.
Set up an appointment for service with the dealer, next comes the call...
They have to order a new compressor. It seems that a few of the 2015's
escaped from the plant with temperamental units that have to be replaced.
Make an appointment with your dealer, they have the service bulletin.

Any way of finding a copy of that VW TSB? Talks with my dealer service department produced a bunch of blank stares and head scratching!....

Update:

Drove to the dealership with A/C blowing HOT air on Tuesday afternoon and service department determined a faulty A/C compressor is the issue. Seems to sometimes switch on at it's leisure.

New compressor is on it's way.

Thanks to all for the tip!!:):)

PS - Dealer gave me a Jetta gas engine loaner with no guts. I miss my Diesel.....:p

Must not be the new TSI engine. To me they feel very close to the diesel for low end grunt and when you need more power at highway cruising.

It's a 2014 Jetta gas motor that I'm loaned. Compared to a 2013 Jetta TDI that I drove several weeks ago, this '14 gas motor Jetta SE is a real dog!

The latch on the little compartment next to the steering wheel just broke, making the compartment stay open. It seems that something came loose inside (likely a spring).
My next trip to the dealer will be interesting with this, along with a leaking rear washer nozzle and a leaking AdBlue injector.
New problems... Had to have one key fob replaced as it drained the battery within 2 weeks.

Also, when the dealer programmed the new key fob, they also "upgraded" my radio software to fix the "revert to 87.7" issue. They actually "downgraded" the software to the basic version and I lost all the functions of the Fender sound system...

Windshield wipers

Anyone else have a juddering driver side wiper? New set installed, screen cleaned, was good for two weeks! Are there any better wipers out there?

I have the same issue. I'm just waiting until they're bad enough to replace. VW OEMs have never worked well for me.

With any luck, they'll make it through winter.

Tried clean wiper blade edge with alcohol?

Also, for the windshield, try a spray product called "Invisible Glass". (Walmart)

Use them both.

Alcohol rarely helps the juddering for me, but using the wash sprayer usually solves it (even in the midst of pouring rain).

Again, these wipers (at least the ones in Canada) seem to be prone to skipping.

Did use both alcohol and invisible glass but still the same. Mk7 owners in Europe have same complaint and recommend Bosch wipers, unfortunately not available in Canada or US.

Bosch wipers used to be available through NAPA Auto Parts in Canada... haven't tried in a few years, though.

On my '15 Jetta, the drivers side wiper wiggles, when using plain washer fluid.

I just refilled with the Rain-X washer fluid over the weekend, and have not seen the blade wiggle yet.

The dealer should have the Bosch blades. I think I have also seen them at Autozone in the US.

Be careful with RainX. The waxes in the RainX will cause the refill strip to plug up and the car will tell you continually that you are out of fluid.

I buy them at Oreilley's. They give a 1 year warranty on the Bosch Icon line. I get about 3-6 month out of a set before they streak or skip. Then warranty them. Do that 2-3x.

Been using the Rain-X for the last 4 years or so in my '06, and '96 with no issues.

96 wouldn't be an issue since they were not wired up every which way.

here's a thread on the Rain-X issues: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=99291&highlight=rain-x

Sounds like it could be season and recipe specific. I just use the cheap blue stuff. I also live in the flight path for the Charlotte airport and so have to change blades at least every year. I've found the Goodyear blades at Costco to work well.

kjclow,
WOW!

I wasn't aware of all the issues about Rain-X. Granted, I was not reading for detail, but it appears to be an issue centered around freezing and coagulating the waxes onto the probes.

thanks for pointing this out.

I will keep an eye on it. But, like I've said, I don't have an issue. Of course, now that I've said that, next week I'll probably have an issue. ;)

I did, too, until one flew off at 75mph on I-65 near Lafayette, IN.

Installed correctly, worked fine for many miles (was about 1500 miles in to that road trip alone, don't remember when the blade was installed prior to that)... just really thankful it was after midnight and there was nobody else on the road.

Windnoise update:

Dealer installed new weather strip around driver side window. Took the mechanic 3hrs as he had to pull interior door panel off, remove glass and other components to access full window strip for removal and replace it... Windnoise is gone now. :)

Good to hear that they found and fixed it.

I did, too, until I lost one at 75mph on I-65 between Chicago and Indianapolis.

Thankfully, it was after midnight, and nobody was hit by the flying spear...

And yes, it was installed correctly. Hadn't had any issue with it for at least 2000 miles.

Malfunctioning mechatronics unit

Traded my 2012tdi jetta for a 2015 golf tdi.
After two months(4000miles), I slowed(from 50mph) to make a turn, while on "sport" mode. When my car down shifted to accelerate it maxed out and the car immobilized, giving me a "transmission failure" warning. After the free VW tow they told me it was software and sent me home in my golf.
I drove home parked and the next morning I backed out of my driveway and it again immobilized with tons of warnings.
After my second tow they kept my car for two weeks waiting on a mechatronics unit to get shipped from germany, since then I have driven 2000 miles and had no oroblems.
Just a warning if your dsg feels funny bring it in before your on the side of road.
Needless to say VW covered all costs including my rental.

Woo! I've been having this issue. The AC is "on" but not actually cooling. But also the AC is "off" but is actually cooling.

First problem encountered: first time I stalled it out, I set off the alarm with the panic button on the key fob. Second time. Third time. Talked to the dealer, talked to VW, talked to Car-Net...no sympathy.

Then I set it off in my pocket.

Opened up the fob, shaved down the rubber nub that engages the panic button. Now I can still press it, but it ain't happening on accident, nor just by gripping the key while turning it.

Also had the auto-up down on the front windows fail intermittently in hot weather. I've taken it in to the dealer once. They could reproduce it, but they haven't done anything to fix it. There's a thread about this issue. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7eF5jSJ-54

Gone...
And a manual transmission.
Haha great way to cure auto transmission woes! Good on ya! :D

Even my wife prefers manuals and has a '13 Manual Golf Wagon TDI Comfortline; out of the 7 VWs we've owned, only one has been an automatic, our old '05 Passat TDI.

As for issues, though I have a TSI and not a TDI, I too have the chattering wipers.

You'd think VW would at least be able to get basic things like wipers down pat. Come to think of it, our '05 Passat has exactly the same problem; sometimes gets better with new blades. My son drives the car now so I haven't kept up on the status of the issue; the car has 280k km on it now so there's probably lots more than just the wipers chattering...

Also Apple CarPlay froze a couple of times (mine's a '16) but unplugging/reconnecting the phone cured it.

If I had to do it all over again I would go with manual transmission over dsg. I find the onboard computer dumb and wasting my gas.
