Ambient light level sensor location
and by 'ambient' I mean the light available from the environment outside the car.
VW calls the interior lighting "ambient" but I'd use "ambiance" to describe that.
ambient /ăm′bē-ənt/
adjective
Surrounding; encircling. "ambient sound; ambient air."
vs.
ambiance /ăm′bē-əns, äɴ-byäɴs′/
noun
The special atmosphere or mood created by a particular environment. "a restaurant known for its romantic ambiance."
Sorry about that. Let me take my 'Grammar Cop' hat off now.
My GSW in "S" (stripped?) trim has no automatic headlight activation, no rain or ambient light sensor in the rear view mirror but I located a spot on the tachometer face, just to the right of the high beam indicator, that causes the tach and speedo ring illumination to react when a focused flashlight beam is shone on that spot.
Using VCDS, logging in with the security code to permit adaptation changes, and changing each of of the five "internal phototransistor" X2 through X5 values to the X1 value of "00 00" accomplished what I wished. These appear to be threshold steps as no cluster ring illumination change took place until the X4 original value of 00 C8 was changed to 00 00.
"Internal phototransistor" Y1 through Y5 were not modified.
<edit> p.s. posted at 18:45: The night illumination is now confirmed to be unaffected and responds as original to the dimmer rheostat. Only the day illumination has been modified. Happy Boy dance....<end edit>
