Hello!

Just replaced the rear coil spring on my old '00 Jetta.

All that was left at the bottom of the coil springs was a very thin corroded and useless ring. I couldn't even think about putting them back. One of the 2 was halfway there only.

So, i put both coil springs there, in their location, without the OEM metal seat, I could find online and on IDPARTS that the number is 1J0512109.

Do you guys usually buy brand new ones, use the old ones or don't bother about them and putting the spring without?

I just wanna make sure i'm not making a mistake going without them.

Thanks a lot

Not needed. I didn’t put it in with my winter suspension. They often rot away anyways.

They help to prevent of sounds and scratching the paint.
Rubber wouldn't last and any metal would work, preferred to be aluminum.

Sacrificial steel, it prevents wear of parts that are not easily or cheaply replaced. I put one on each side of my lift blocks

Thanks a lot,
I don't think i'll remove them again to put those back. I used rustproofing inside the springs pockets, that will be good enough for me. This car doesn't have 10 years yet to live anyway.
