MK4 Jetta Glove Box Lock Cylinder Stuck

Hi everyone,

I just replaced my glove box lid on my MK4 Jetta. I inserted the glove box lock cylinder with the prong in the correct direction and all of the tumblers flush. My glove box opens and closes, but the lock cylinder is stuck and will not go into the lock position when putting the key in it and twisting it. I am using the same key as the ignition. When I inserted the cylinder, I didn't leave the key in it which I know some people do. Does anyone know the issue when I installed my glove box lock cylinder? I would remove the lock cylinder but the issue is it seems like its in for good and I don't want to break the plastic handle again.

I would leave it be.
Folks what break into cars would just destroy that new lid if they want in there.

Dont you need the key in the cylinder so the wafers stay pulled in for install/removal?

Welcome to the club!
Thanks! I honestly left the lock cylinder be. May be jammed. I got the car with a destroyed glove box, so the new lid I put on looks better than before! Plus I don't even lock my glovebox EVER in any of my vehicles. Like you said, if someone REALLY wants to get into your glove box they will smash the door open!

This is possibly where I screwed up. The wafers were flush already which was weird. So I assumed it was good to go and stuck it in the glove box door.
