If you can't find anything up top, remove the lower engine cover and check for any loose piping.

I wonder if you've had an injector come loose? Something surely has. Be very cautious when inspecting them while the engine is running.
Maybe inspect them and their hold-downs while it's not running first.
I will have open up and have a good look at what's happening inside there with the injectors. Many thanks for the advice. Will update when done

Check the exhaust, might have broken the downpipe. The flexi can often crack.

PS What horsepower is your golf? Might be the AHF engine which is the 110 hp

ALH is 90 hp with vnt type turbo and AGR is like the ALH but with a wastegate type turbo.
