It was probably bound to happen eventually, by I finally managed to put a key through the washing machine. On discovery of my mistake, I opened the remote control section up and let it dry for a few days, then changed the batteries, but no joy. I see there is a procedure for programming a duplicate, but you need a working original to perform the procedure (I only have the one key fob). Am I destined to remain in the 1980's with manual key opening, or is there a way around this without having to drop my strides at the dealership? I have a Ross-Tech VAG Com if that's of help.
Cheers.
Tom.

You can't program keys with ross-tech. Either a dealership (expensive) or you need another programming device

The remote portion of the key CAN be programmed with Vag Com--Link

It's the immo that can't be done. But then again, the immo chip in the key should be just fine.

For future reference, washed fobs will usually recover if you remove the batteries immediately, wash the circuit board in pure alcohol, and dry it in a bag of rice or other desiccant. It's the salts and other impurities in wash water which remain after the water evaporates which do the damage.

I did the same thing on my 2004. Managed to program the new keys with ross-tech vag com. There's a youtube video that shows how to retrieve the pin from the ECU to program new keys in the immobilizer and lock out missing keys using the ross-tech HEX-CAN USB cable.

Cool. Thanks everyone for the feedback. The immo component is fine, it's just the remote that's faulty. I'll try some of options and return with feedback.
Cheers,
Tom.
