Well right now I'm not completely sure, I believe that the T/B has slipped but did not break. I was driving it a bit hard, which is fine cause I'm a bit more of a performance driver and not a economy driver unless I'm on long trips. Just as I neared my home, almost to my driveway, the car had a massive power drop some smoke but no knocking. It may have gone into limp mode, but the next day when I decided to start it up it took longer than normal to start and was smoking with very little power. So I only ran it maybe 30 seconds and shut it back off and parked it. I have money one to begin working on it but that's an as my schedule dictates kind of deal. I ordered $500 worth of Metal Nerds tools a few days ago and KCTDI said he would help me out with the VCDS portion of the timing after I change the belt. The car has about 270k on it so I am going to pull the motor and inspect everything! I plan on checking the bottom end, inspecting the cam and head, then painting the block, oil pan and head after cleaning as much carbon and stuff out of the intake and everything that I can. I am considering ordering a "limp mode kit" from idparts.com, EGR/EGR cooler delete, 2.5" down pipe, dg bypass filter, nozzles (but I know nothing about what size to pick), and maybe a new tuner ( if the tuner and chip can be run simultaneously I don't know that either), possibly a dual SMIC kit from BleachedBora along with a clutch upgrade kit, not sure about but would like to do a 5th gear swap and absolutely going to do a deluxe T/B kit from BleachedBora as well.

If the Head has any damage I would like to get a complete head with Colt cam stage 2 and maybe some porting/polishing from Franko6. Yeah so I'm just trying to do as much as I can at one time to make certain that everything is in it's best running order. Any suggestions or counseling that you guys can offer would be greatly appreciated!

Well I certainly will not go overboard till I have some time to get the car in the shop and check things out. But I would like to go ahead and do some work while it's down. Not that I want to go all crazy but if there is something wrong I may as well upgrade right?

If you travel to Missouri frequently, it looks like you can save at least 20 cents/ gallon by filling up on that side of the river.

There is a station not far down McCausland from 64/40 that has diesel. Not sure exactly on that stretch of Big Bend.

thanks for the replies. i/we live near alton, and while i know where they are in my neighborhood, we were just curious where in mo by/near where she works. yeah, i knew about lilac and down on hall street, but that would be kinda a pain in the rear just to save .20 cents. skinker and mccausland isnt far from where she works. well, at least its less out of the way anyway. thanks

WellI haven't started it yet LOL, but hopefully I will be ready to crank it up over the weekend? I'm doing some electrical and some of the finishing touches tonight. What I can say right now is a brief list of parts. Colt stage 2 cam, AFE air box, upgraded 2.5" filter to turbo piping, 2.5" turbo to IC piping, 2" IC to intake, full EGR and cooler delete, modified ASV retained in new location, Passenger Race Pipe, new intake, new intercooler, full motor rebuild, VNT-17 turbo, Franko6 valve grind/head rebuild, Snow Performance MPG/MAXX kit, McNally dual oil Temp/Pressure gauge and dual IAT/EMP gauge, Mufflerectomy and Cat Gut :) , new vacuum lines, oil catch can, FrostHeater, 3 core radiator, New AC, custom made my own Stainless Steel Power Steering High Pressure line cooler and hoses, all new front bushings and tie rod ends upgraded to TT bushings, 0.658 final drive kit then some lighting mods but I think that's it besides where I custom made and mounted my Snow Performance controller at...

It's been a lot of work and now that I'm nearly finished I wanted to share the pics! Hope y'all enjoy them! If you have questions or comments feel free to let me know...

I looked through your pics and didn't really see any carnage. What was the failure that made you pull out the engine?

A32e5s7 :) It cost WAY too much LOL I stoped keeping track...

Woofie2 Now you tell me! I dont know if I want to take it all back apart!!!

CoolAirVW Look at the pictures of the turbo... still not real sure what happened, had plenty of oil and was previously running GREAT! The turbo oil feed line was clear of restrictions and flowed perfect. If you have any ideas let me know =) It would be good to know for future reference...

Thanks for checking outy my pictures. Maybe I will ruun into you guys at a GTG sometime and you can check it out in person!

I am in the St Louis area, Soulard area, and I am also new to the TDI community. I just purchased a new JSW TDI last week. Still on my first tank of gas. I must say this is the most fun car I have ever owned and believe me i've owned my fair share of cars: several Supras, Hondas, Mini Cooper S, Toyotas, etc... This thing is by far the best car I've ever owned. I just hope it will last a long time

Thanks CoolAirVW I just hope I used enough duct tape in the right places! I'm about to start the scary part of the project! The break in procedure! Actually it's learning how to plastic weld to make my own W/M tank in a super secret first aid compartment ;-) don't tell everyone though!

No lashing here, but if you can change your mindset to DIESEL or FUEL and NEVER think GAS.... then you are less likely to mis-fuel your wonderful car.....

I need to fuel up the car. (good)
I need to buy some diesel. (good)

C***, I am late and need to gas up the car right now! (not so good....)

Prior

See how it works? LOL

Enjoy and good luck!

It will last longer if you only put diesel in its tank.

Never say, "gas up"; say, "time to get some fuel".

If anyone else ever drives your TDI, make sure they understand. If he or she uses the words "gas" or "gasoline", take the keys away for a month as punishment. Take the keys away from yourself if you screw up.
