I heard back from my editor yesterday and it looks like I'll be able to do a small event coverage article on the GTG. Hopefully I'll even be able to shoot a tech article or two while I'm there.

What kind of tech will people be doing on their cars???

I'll bring my Red '06 Jetta TDI

I'm new guy here - both tdiclub and tennessee - just picked up my tdi a few weeks ago. I have plenty on my "to-do" list if you'll welcome a new guy no ones ever heard of before.

Excellent! I may have a motor mount job on my B4, not sure if that's worthy though. There may be a TB job on an ALH NB possibly to be done.

Maybe we can win Dan over to the Tennessee style BBQ:D I'm definitely bringing the Jetta. Maybe we can brainstorm a cure for the excessive boost hunting aka zip-tie cure aggressive VNT problem on my car.

The cure for this is already known, right? Adjust the turbo vane stop to limit travel about 1 to 1.5 turns. Of course this is adjusting the screw that should never be touched.

On early BRM's with smaller, more delicate flanges, the flange sometimes breaks off when you try to loosen the locknut. Then you must make a new mount for the turbo stop on the oil flange, or get a new turbo.

And it takes about 4 hours to get in there, make the adjustment, then put it back together.

What a pain.

As far as BBQ goes, I don't think I've ever tried any local BBQ that I did not like. Texas (West Texas where I grew up and where BBQ meant BEEF) SC, NC, Memphis, LA - I liked it all.

Ouch!

And I have to say I have never had any I didn't like either, may be a little bias to Memphis style since I am a Memphian ;).

And to all who are interested, I put some info int he first post about camping on site if anybody is interested.

My to do list as of now is swapping out the tranny that came in mine (appears to be from a 2.0L gasser) to a proper ratio tdi box and possibly swap in a tall 5th gear and swap to a single mass fw & clutch.

and I'm thinkning when I have the trans out it would be a lot easier to move the engien around to do a TB, pull the whole intake to clean it out and check the health of the turbo.

smells like the PO was a smoker, the interior is dirty and the drivers side lumbar is torn to **** so swapping out the seats and cleaning the carpets would be nice.

Thats only a couple hours of work though so maybe someone can come up with something interesting to do in addition?

big turbo? a 300ft-lb beetle would make me laugh my ass off.

Does anyone have the metalnerd timing belt tool kit?

If not and there will be a few people doing timing belts maybe we could get a pool together to order a single tool set and share?

I missed Dan's last GTG - so I'm now 100% in on this GTG

I'd be up for bringing drinks or anything else needed - just shoot me a PM with a list

Yeah, I'm an all of the above BBQ lover myself. If I get much bigger I'm getting fitted for a westphalia tent.
And, of course, I've got an early 06 Jetta. Well, as far as the vane adjustment, I guess I won't be fixing it tell it breaks per my usual approach -/brainstorm.
Surely someone has a good old fashioned intake cleaning they need to do. We gotta burn something, right?

I'm sure you could add that to my list bi just picked up my car. It's got ~190k+ miles on it and I have no service history.

I'm actually thinking the easiest way to address all these issues with the engine and trans may be to just drop the entire from subframe and get at them both much more easily? I don't know what kind of chore that is on this car though?

The Bowling clan may wander down. Won't know for sure until closer to the event.

Mac, your worklist is a bit ambitious for a GTG.....

So what are the ground rules?

Bring all your own tools? Or what might be available as communal? Carry away all your used fluids?

What's expected?
