Peter--- good to know you're going to be there. I'll have to order some parts for you to bring so I have something to do at this GTG. I havent' had a GTG project in a while. :) I'm thinking 5.5l washer tank? Vented fender liner?

And, as I was looking through TDIParts.com, I saw the upper IC piping... maybe I'll do that instead... Maybe all three! ;)

Gonna bump this puppy up to the top again. If all you folks had a good time at Whitbreads GTG last weekend, you'll want to make this one.

Is your clutch slipping?

I got the usual VR6/G60 setup. It has a nice, stock feel to it. But in the summertime I like to have the windows down, and the rattling that you get when you let the clutch out in neutral while sitting at a stoplight bugs me. In part, it bugs me because I'm sure plenty of the folks who have occupied the lane next to me and heard the extra rattling that sounds like a second engine in there is thinking, "gawd, those diesels make too much noise."

At the time I did look for a LUK clutch, but couldn't find one. TDIParts now has this kit available:
http://www.tdiparts.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=76_102&products_id=740
$680, though, as opposed to $400 for the VR6/G60. It might be hard to justify spending that much more for a 9-year-old car. But it'd be a little smoother/quieter.
Hey, my car does the same thing with the same clutch! And I have the same opinion about it!

I might have to be at this one. I had a great time at Matt's GTG. How far away is it from Fort Wayne? Maybe I will get the New Beetle chipped??:D

Sounds fun, I don't really have any work for the car unless somebody wants to help me figure out where the whistling noise is coming from :D

Yes, I'll be there. I'll have to decide which car to bring. Maybe the Passat if I feel like driving it on a dirt road.

Yeah! What's a little cow manure between friends. Besides, that farmer should have his fields fertilized by then anyway and all you'll have to worry about is the chuckholes from all those resurrected TDIs burning out of Martys drive with big grins on their owners faces. :D

Is there a list to get on for a chip?
I know my son will be ready with his RED GOLF project by then. He should be joining us on the forum soon. We picked it up last weekend in Columbus and are getting ready to tear into the repair. I am very proud he has grown up to appreciate the same things we all do... ;)

He could be hanging around with girls or something, but thankfully he's more interested in hanging around with a bunch of oddball guys in coveralls huffing diesel exhaust. How proud you must be! :p

What do you expect... He Finishes his engineering degree at Kettering this week and is a True Gearhead. And acutally I don't think there would be a way for me to be more proud.

But... Marty... will anyone be there to chip?

Like Old Navy and his Chrysler vehicles? :)
Uh, he longer drives those - they're long gone. He is 100% Mercedes-Benz now and way above us mere mortals in the common old plain TDI's as a result.

I own a car with a gun sight on the hood, but I still hang around here :)

I think the TDI will be the ride for this year. Many new goodies abound!

I keep seeing guys like compu85 and frugality with 200k+ mileage cars and I just keep hoping that my cars will last that long. Only problem is that as the boys get older the wagon seems to be getting smaller and smaller.
Both of mine are now over 100K and still going strong with only minor light issues.. In fact I should probably work on those now that I think of it..
The wagon keeps getting a CEl for the glow plugs even though they were changed less than 5K ago, and the silly ABS light keeps coming on intermittently for the right front sensor.

Guess I do have something to do..
Time for some part research.

Try cleaning and gooping the electrical connections with NoAlOx or the like, may save much on parts and can't hurt.

I am so there this year. I missed last years due to that beast we call a job, but this year I am off on weekends! This will be my first GTG. It will be fun to meet all of these online personalities. I think it is time to chip the Jetta. She needs some speed! I've got to keep up with girlfriend's TT!:D

Hmmm. Maybe I will. But no A/C may rule out bringing the dog. He doesn't like the heat.

Hang in there with the Jetta wagon. My sons complained about riding in back when we'd go snowboarding, but I did my best to impress on them that the TDI in part allowed us to afford to go to the mountains. And then they complained about the Recaro seats (no taste, IMO). But now they're away at college and have their own cars, the Jetta wagon has 203K on it, just got detailed, and it's ready for another 200K I think.

Check the electrical connections on the ABS. That's what was giving me problems on my left front sensor. And use some dielectric grease on the glow plug tops. You may be able to get that CEL to go away.

Got crank windows. It's fine with me. But I don't have as much hair as the dog. Whatever I bring, I'm looking forward to coming out there. I'm growing fond of both Michigan and Wisconsin. Which, for a died-in-the-wool New Englander, is something.
