MIB2 Radio in a 2015 Passat

I picked up a MIB 2 radio out of a 2017 Beetle at my local scrap yard. I tried putting in my wife's 2015 Passat. I ran the additional power wires it needed. So it powers up fine. But it plays at full volume and the volume knob does nothing.

Does anyone know, is there more to this then plug and play?

I read somewhere that the VIN needs to be matched some how.

Seems like I remember reading something here about a swap like this. IIRC it didn't seem easy or inexpensive.

The glove box brain box is required to display proper resolution. As well as removing component protection and so on.

I've been doing some research and it looks like you can disable the component protection with VAG Commander 1.4
Working on getting a copy.

You sure about this? If so that's good news. I want my guru to do this. I haven't taken a VW to a dealer for anything since 2004. Yes, I'm 100% sure. The MIB journey in my car is exhaustive, stupid and very much not recommended. I've had everything, from start to now... MIB I (non-nav) with...

It is a bit of a pain. I did pay for "remote help" to do all that, but you still need the same physical tools to "fix" the MIB2.

Whatever process you need some proficiency with computers.
