Hello people, my newly acquired golf has a mfa cluster, and I am wanting the colors to mimic that of a mk6 (black and white only other than the needles and redline on the tach). I understand the led's can be replaced by someone comptetnt with soldering on a circuit board, no big deal. What i cannot find the answer to, is can the red mfa lcd screen color somehow be changed to black/ white, again to resemble a mk6 cluster?

Honestly...if you're going through that much trouble, I'd be contacting Clusters by Litke (sadly, a business based wholly on Facebook 😠) and seeing what he can do for you.
Matt (Mr. Litke) can do up pretty much whatever you want, however you want, albeit at a price.
But no one will do it better.

I contacted him, and unfortunately there is no way to change the mfa screen color, and no different color screen to install. I'll still be happy to have all the blue light gone. Anyways, thank you for the suggestion.

Well, there is his full-color screen / ColorMFD - that's certainly a different color (and then some).

I asked him very straight forwardly about the cluster i have, and he said there is a- no way to change the color of the text or backlight, and b- no other screen that will swap in with a different color, unfortunately.

That's shocking, tbh. I thought he could pretty much customize pretty much any VAG cluster from Mk4 onwards.
What cluster do you have? Do you have the part number available?

Maybe give the folks at ColorMFD a try (?). (That's where I got those screen-grabs above)

Don't have the part number off hand. I bought the golf from @pkhoury , he may know. I too thought it was suprising, but this is out of my wheelhouse. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to ask. I'd sure think if it is possible to do, with reliable parts, he would know, but again, anything is possible.

Yeah - I think he was was maybe just thinking or replying to "replace with OE or OE equivalent".

But there's definitely a replacement that can be done that can give you what you want - and which he has done in the past. I know he had trouble getting parts a year and some ago, but he'd told me that he was expecting availability early 2024.

I can solder wires together pretty decently, but as far as something on an instrument cluster that im pretty sure uses ribbon cable, I'd really rather not. I also doubt my little butane soldering iron is right for the job. I'm sure I know people who can though.

Very cool about the screen there. Thank you.
