Non of their skyactive technologies matter when they don't have the cash flow to build factory, to built new cars and expand into new markets. SAAB used to make high quality cars in the early to late 90's with luxurious interior, great handling, powerful turbo four, 250km top speed competing face to face with the best from Germany like the 535/540i, Merc E Class, but without economy of scale, nothing matters. I say Mazda could be gone in 5 years if they can't find ways to scale up.

Mazda's New Skyactiv D Low Compression Diesel

I have been reading about Mazda's take on the 2.2L Diesel Engine. I think they may have something with their design. Not only that, they will be the first Asian company to sell a diesel in the US (Although they are owned by Ford MC) It looks to be very promising. What do you think?

That low compression is going to make cold starts pretty hard up north. Other then cold starts I think its about time a variable valve timing was put on a diesel. Tuning should be pretty good too, with the variable valve.
Mazda should just launch the freaking thing already.

Well, I got the ideal car when I went to a dealership in Valparaiso trying to find a Mazda. Mazda is one of the very best brands out there. All of its vehicles look good on the outside and come with more technology than anticipated. I knew I wanted a Mazda, but I did not know which one would be right for me. I went to the dealership, and the dealer helped me choose out the perfect car. At Mazda Valparaiso IN, you are able to find a Valparaiso dealership.

Toyota and Nissan both beat Mazda, with the Toyota Truck in 1981, and the Datsun 810 in 1981.5.

Mazda didn't sell a diesel in the US until their Perkins clone used in the 1983 B2200 (and 1983 Ranger).

7 Japanese brands in the US with Nissan, Honda & Toyota being the "Big 3" of their auto industry.

That leaves Mazda, Subaru, Mitsubishi, and Suzuki as the 4 low on the food chain. Is Isuzu gone from the US? I honestly haven't paid attention to Isuzu for a decade or more.

Anyways, Mitsubishi of North America only exists as a tax write-off for Mitsubishi UFJ (large bank in Japan). As soon as that tax write-off ceases to exist, or becomes marginal, I expect that MMNA would exit the US market and sell the sole North America manufacturing plant to someone else. Mitsubishi says that NA assembly plant is key to their global growth, but I don't know the honest truth on that statement.

Subaru and Mazda have stronger futures than Suzuki has. Subaru has partnered with Toyota after separating from the 20% or whatever GM ownership tie-up. That means future Subaru products might share Toyota platforms, and might have to abandon the boxer engines . . .

Hummmm...it says meets Euro 6, is that going to be good enough for us? Or we our version be different? And if Mazda has this, how does Ford not have it? I know they parted ways at some point, but, when Ford was in charge, they had to know of the development and were in on it maybe?

why would Ford want it? They've got their own collaboration, remember.
Ford has really dropped the ball on diesel development. That's one reason I switched from a hard core Ford man to TDI's in 2007. The Mazda diesel powered Escorts and Rangers of the early 80s was a pioneering effort that Ford and Mazda proved they were in the game to compete with the Germans successfully. I'll be in line too when the Skyactiv diesel hits North America later this year. I hope the CX is not the only offering. A mazda 6 would be sweet too and no adblue for the North American versions!

There are just too many to list....
Yes, that evil Adblue that allows the heavier Passat to use less fuel than a Golf.... bad stuff, that Adblue. Who would dare want an extra 8 MPG?

I will really be surprised if we see a compression-ignited vehicle at the Mazda dealer here. Been vaporware for so long.

I think they have good stuff in Europe, Ford that is, which is why I am surprised they did not "join" in this motor's development when they were in charge of Mazda. It was not too long ago that they sold their majority stake, and I think they still own a chunk, just not working as closely together any more. Ford management DID save Mazda.
