i own a 2003 TDI Jetta and i'm looking at an electronic boost controller for it. i'm just wondering what you can push your PSI to before you turbo/internals start to let go??? I have a ****ty ebay fuel injection chip and it works when it wants, and when its working and i hammer on it, in 2nd and 3rd gear i'm pushin just over 30PSI. any help or advice with this topic would be greatly appreciated!!!

18 psi to about 20 is safe on a vnt 15 with spikes of about 24psi.
With spikes of 30 psi start saving for a new turbo, or invest in a diverter valve
it will help regulate psi by closing the vanes to lower boost pressure.

20 psi on a stock turbo is really pushing it. You might as well start saving for a new one at that point. Your turbo will die quick if you regularly spike to 24 psi.

Almost every tuner will tell you that anything above 18 psi on stock turbo is asking for trouble.

18 PSI is the max "safe" SUSTAINED boost. Spikes of 24 PSI are not harmful. Spikes of 30 PSI, those are.

Borrowed time LOL. You really only want to run about 18-18.5 psi without spikes IMO. Spikes mean your not breathing enough for your software. Give a real tuner a call to get a proper remap and get rid of that junk that's on your car now before your intake eats compressor chunks.

18-19 sustained, for me spike of no more then 22 psi. The odd time you will spike more.

Yes, dont be cheap, Contact a tuner. You will not regret it.

Not suggested. I have the "new" VNT-15 with the VNT-17 vanes and even that is really only supposed to be pushing 20PSI max.
1.2 bar is stock.so 1.5 bar is not that much more.i mean it is a lot more but looks like its ok on my car.but i dont have any spikes.

thanks alot for all the responces guys!!! now second where do i go to get a re-map and what will that do? do you go to volkswagen for that or do you have to find a diesel specialist?? cause i live in southern ontario canada and there is literally nobody who specializes in diesel cars. only lifted trucks. and if i were to look at the VNT-15 , what are they worth on average? thanks

Talk to Vw mikel he has exceptional service fair price and can email you a tune and walk you through the process. tdtunning.com
A remap will up your boost and fuel delivery. Cheapest best way to improve a tdi.
Start with that then, turbo, injectors, drive line, cooling, repeat for more power.
If you want to upgrade the turbo your jetta comes with a vnt15 you should upgrade to a vnt 17 or something bigger depending on how much power you want to make.

Hey guys, sorry for bringing this post back from the dead but I was asking myself this same question! The reason I was thinking about this is because I recently installed a manual boost controller on my 02 Jetta tdi, and the max psi I get is 10, then tappers down to about 5 sustained?? What gives!? What can be causing this low boost level?

At what altitude, temperature and flow?

The answer is "It Depends". No turbo operates with a "Constant maximum" value since a few degrees difference (ambient) can completely change the boost plot for existing conditions.

Talk to your tuner and find out how much beyond stock they are running, much beyond a stock pressure and you are in dangerous territory.

FWIW, stock already runs on the surge limit, exceeding that will absolutely put you at risk of blowing the turbo during acceleration.
