I was about to pull the trigger on a tune for my 04 wagon, But my guy said it would be 625 after tax.... Is this what people are really paying for a stage 1.5 Malone tune?? I was not prepared for that bill.
I had a unitronic tune in my old Jetta and was sure it was only 200 ish.

Excuse my ignorance lol.
Is the price point worth Malone over uni??

There are other options.
Sounds like your buying a box and not visiting a malone dealer

You can visit a Malone dealer they direct flash you ecu so buying the flash box is optional.
Other options are sending ecu to a tuner.
Having the box is nice as you can store several tunes and store your original should the car die or be sold

I'm actually in touch with him now and he is fantastic to deal with. Best advice I've gotten here yet. Still have to save up though, it's not cheeper lol
Awesome, if you haven't figured it out yet you'll be in for a learning experience. He tune's and teaches you about your car at the same time lol.

So is my suspicions correct that I need to have VDCS?
NO, you need a 20$ kkl cable of ebay or amazon. Then download vcds lite to use with it. I will say though if you can afford the actual vcds and learn how to use it that will benefit you much more in the long run. at least that is what I have been told. Personally I have not needed it so far. Though a couple times it would have been nice. Especially if you do your own timing belts.

My only issue is that by the time I get it it's 400$ it's hard to stomach. So if I can use the lite version that would great.

for a BEW, having the genuine VCDS is very beneficial - hugely better data sample rate with TURBO mode (10x more) - vcds-lite can't do that. makes for much better fine-tuning if you have a better sample rate. the k-line sample rate vcds-lite is limited to is very poor (same sample rate on alh). it's just barely adequate 3/sec - so if you log 3 measuring blocks at once, you only can get one boost sample per second. pretty bad. but logging 2 blocks at once and with my custom measuring blocks, it's workable, just not ideal.

hey @Mishawack check the video I just posted in my build thread... burpod tune with .260 nozzles, clean intake/egr. it'll give you an idea of what performance is like with this setup

Unfortunately I pay in Canadian peso's, it's almost 400 by the time I get it. 👎
Ask @CanadianALH or some other guys in Canada where they get theirs. I think it can be had for cheaper thru some Canadian vendors. Vcds-lite will get you by though, stock fueled BEW tune with stock or mild upgrade turbo isn't all that complicated and have it fairly well sorted out, so the faster data sample rate isn't critical
