Stage 2 tune on it's way (well the tunezilla at least) to go with the Buzzken setup. I would have loved to go rocketchip, but I'm 99.9% sure I'll need to revert to stock annually. Having the tunezilla seems the easiest way to do that. I still have a few thousand miles of warranty left but I think I want to get it done before winter actually hits here.

Be careful. Audi can see if the ECM has been tuned and returned to stock. The warranty is too good to waste it away.

I'm with you gforce1108, I also ordered a DPF delete (Rawtek) and a stage 2 tune from Malone. I have some warranty left, but am willing to forgo as the DPF will be gone, EGR, intake flaps and adblue deleted. If the turbo goes I'll use it as an excuse to upgrade to something bigger, haha.

Did you already do your DPF delete? There isn't a good guide out there for the 2014 Q5 3.0L TDI, it is quite different from your Q7. I emailed Rawtek whom stated they don't have a write up for my engine but provided some basic steps, as did Malone. It should be easier than my 2.0L that I did last year, I am told. I'll tune mine for now before the mods and not do the DPF delete til spring.

Let us know how it goes! This will be my 3rd Malone tune, I did a 2005 Passat TDI and a 2011 Golf Wagon TDI and immensely enjoyed how they drove after the deletes and tunes.

Hello everyone, I’m very new to the tdi club about 6 months ago I picked up a white mk6 golf tdi with some help from my two buddies who have a 2013 golf tdi and the other a 2012 Audi wagon tdi, I’m starting this post to bring you guys along on the tdi journey the three of us are about to go on. The plan was to go full Malone stage 2(I don’t bash tuners) but for the time being I’ve decided to go kerma for a baseline of what I need to upgrade and look at before I pull the trigger on Malone, one of my other buddies with the 13’ golf tdi did the same and we both love it, since knowing that could someone point us in the right direction for what we’ll need for the Malone power gain, the list keeps growing but i would like all the input I can get. Thanks Bobby.

Last I checked, Malone stage two is available in a normal, and Eco mode. Normal meaning tune, nothing required, everything stays intact. Eco is a DPF delete in the form of a downpipe. I think depending on your driving style and life of your current clutch the Eco mode may also require an upgrade, but I never required it.

Most of the time, the tuners will mention which upgrades are required for their particular tune. But, modding is a pretty slippery slope, so it's best to have a decent idea of the end goal, and plan/spend accordingly.

The goal for the cars is to have a long term daily driver, get the best fuel economy, be fairly reliable and have enough power for anything we please.

We all mainly drive for the fuel economy now, as we all drive over 90+ miles round trip for work a day. Also extra power would be nice. We were thinking Malone stage 2 with egr and dpf delete so it doesn’t keep recirculating therefore better longevity.

100% correct.
If someone wants to know, and knows what they are doing, they can tell how many times an ECM\TCM etc have been flashed, yaddi, yaddi, yadda.
In reality, both techs and dealers are lazy (most of the time) and will not bother unless they have a reason to.....
Unfortunately, the motherland has recognized this, and the dealer diagnostic tools will randomly decide to check this, and you'll earn a TD1 flag which will cause you much regret if it happens.

Some say, that if you play with fire, sometimes you get burned.

Or sometimes your lucky and get a vehicle that never has problems. I wonder if the previous owner replaced the cp4 in my car before the diesel gate scandle. Or had it tuned, deleted with the cp3 pump and returned it to stock. No idea of knowing unless the prev owner remembers the vin and is on here.

Yes we knew that going into the tuning process but the dealer we go to hasn’t said a word to my buddy when the tune fried his sensor and they still replaced the dpf and sensor so free

But my appointment is for the 11th of next month so I’ll keep all of you guys updated on the situation and if they flag it, dpf and egr delete it is With Malone. Which we called a vw dealer and they do Malone tunes it’s just an hour away no big deal.

VCDS will give you some info..... other tools will give you more.... the dealer tool can compare what it reads off whatever vehicle against their database, and as soon as it doesn't match, they know you've "messed with it".

There's also the CVN (ECU flash checksum more or less, which if it doesn't match what VAG has is a big red flag)

Ahhhh I see, but my question now is if my mk6 and my buddies mk6 have kerma and they still did all his work under warranty I’m guessing I have a 50/50 chance of them being lazy with my tdi?

Yupp. It was tuned before. 3 are from me. 13 attempts and 8 successful. 2 would be from vw.

My crystal ball is broken, so I can't tell you what the odds are.
As I've already said, IF someone who knows what they are doing wants to know, they WILL know. There's also the possibility of the tool randomly running a check when your vehicle is hooked up just because it can.

Sometimes they just quickly read the codes and authorize the repair. I was asked a few times to bring my car in. Then was called by the supervising tech. Flat out said, "we'll cover a failed hpfp regardless of tune. Done it more than a few times. (Even my stage 4) We cannot prove the tune caused it to fail, because we have virgin vehicles they fail on. turbos are iffy though. But with 140k on yours I'm surprised it hasn't been replaced. We've had new hpfp fail in 30k" but many of them here are tuned. I've seen 3 others blowing black. But yeah 50/50 all they can say is no. But you can go through voa and they have to prove without a shadow of a doubt that the tune caused it to fail... They can't.

Some of the tech here use vcds to avoid that.

Only about 3k miles left on warranty. I checked ash/soot load yesterday and both were still low (.04l ash / 10.46g soot measured, 19.9 calc). I had to force a regen in July when the soot hit 52g measured, No leaks under the car or in the valley, no noises, etc. My cars never go anywhere unless a specific warranty issue or recall. Nothing gets done that would affect an existing tune once I have one (BEW glow plugs...).

I downloaded the O2/EGR/DPF/Swirl flap delete stage 2 tune yesterday from Malone. There looks like there's plenty of room in the engine compartment to work- I guess I'll find out soon enough. Maybe this weekend. I have to pick up a couple gaskets - keep forgetting to order them.

Swirl flap delete
Huh? Doesn't your CPNB use the newer "staked flaps" on the manifold instead of the old style individual runner valves? Are you removing the whole V157 unit and airguide pipe or just making some adapter, etc? Post a pic of your parts so I can understand what's happening.

It may be the generic name of their delete tune. I only specified that I was removing the DPF/Cat downpipe. Most of the hardware will stay in place, the tune just stops using it. EGR mostly (I assume flaps close to increase EGR flow?). The DPF/Cat is getting removed. Since I believe I have to revert to stock annually, everything else will stay in place. I'll check the readiness monitors to confirm, but my understanding is that the will show "not ready", but no CEL. N/A may pass - depends on if DMVs computers have gotten smarter or not.

Oh boy...
#7 in this pic is what your "swirl flaps" look like

Based on that, I can only assume that the tuner will code it to stay open at all times and I can only assume that there will be some sort of blocking plate at the port above #26 if EGR is also being disabled, but I don't know.... this is why I was asking so that I could attempt to understand.

It seems to be like my BEW EGR delete. There was a throttle and little flappers in the intake that closed to increase EGR flow and mixing. With the delete tune, they just no longer operated but stayed in place. Throttle open all the time (I removed the throttle plate anyway). Since the EGR never opens, no blank is needed.

Tunemyeuro has the buzzken downpipe and Malone tune together. I ordered the pipe from them, but went direct to Malone for the black Friday sale. Owain has been very responsive so far. I let him know what hardware I purchased and they built the tune. Again, I'm sure it's a relatively generic tune for the V6 that builds on the stock ECU tune I uploaded. I'll update as I progress. Gaskets ordered from fcpeuro this morning.

I was hoping to have the work done by now but everyone else needs work done so I haven't been able to work on my own cars. My house looked like a EuroAsian shop this weekend: 2 Audis, 2 VWs, a Mercedes, 2 Hondas, a Lexus, a Subaru, a Mazda and a Nissan.

FedEx also lost my gaskets in Memphis due to the storms. Why it went to Memphis going from Ct to NY, I don't know... Have to wait 8 days before they'll rule them lost.

The stars aligned.... Parts arrived, time was available and no car on my lift! The tune was straightforward per Malone's instructions. Delete kit came with none, but I have the factory manual on ElsaWin. I thought there was enough room to pull the DPF but there is not without pulling the panel behind it (hadn't actually read the manual ;)). That probably took longer than the whole rest of the exhaust replacement. Next time will be cake.
Also changed the fuel filter while I was under there.

Not as loud as I hoped - dead quiet inside the car. Sounds decent from outside but I think I'll try to straight pipe the mufflers too. I have not found anyone selling a "cat-back" for the single turbo A7 TDI, only the BiTDI

And what's the story with the gains? Does it break ya neck now?

It feels pretty good. Low RPM torque is noticeably improved. It pulls in drive like it did down a gear in sport prior. Not neck breaking by any means. The TCU tune should help some from what I understand. I did some pulls in manual mode yesterday and it kept upshifting on it's own early. It may not have been warmed up though. My drive home today should give a better chance to play with it.
